what exactly is the benefit of adding this to my hosts file? just blocking tracking?

edit: I'm dumb it's exactly what I thought. Does anyone have like... the definitive "definitely use THIS hosts file to block xyz connection". basically I want functional cracked plugins

I think someone posted a host file editor and you can start from there. If you're thinking of using warez, I suggest you keep the hosts file organized, labeled correctly and if new information is shared here (or at AZ) you can just add those new urls to the block list and keep your computer safe and those warez from deactivating itself by home-calling. There's not a single hosts file like you wish and you kinda need to create and build your own based on everything shared in this thread.

Here's how mine looks like, I just add the company sorted by alphabet and the blocked list here and always keep a backup of it, still I somehow manage to lost it 3 times and rebuild everything back. There's developer that added hosts file reset in their plugin installer, as for now the one that is known for doing that is AuroraDSP. So it's always good to have a backup and Host File Editor is a good tool for it.

Haha, 844,000 characters! Okay, I thought so. My only concern is I do occasionally buy VST/fx when I can (who the hell can afford to buy everything right?) Thank you for clarifying. the only thing i'm wondering is it shouldn't bounce from localhost (i.e. 127.0.0.0 and rather you should 0.0.0.0) this will result no no slowdowns on windows, yes? (for example I've bought Melda stuff before.)

I can share my private hosts file. Six entries for audio, additionally three for ... er, I don't know what. [IMG]

Sure, the only reason I Really ask is bc my old SSD failed and unfortunately I'm building from the ground up.

There's a long list of tracking websites and urls I copied from here and someplace else, added to the host file. I think a lot of people here have them added too. I rarely get ad popups that actually manage to connect and multiple itself, even if it get past the usual adblock, it only open a new window and went dead right there. About the 127.0.0 and 0.0.0.0 there are few discussions about it here and I came to a conclusion that 0.0.0.0 is more efficient, I forgot the entire details but it's something about not creating a loopback or something.

Oh, oh, that sounds like you don't have a backup. Save often and save early. :guru:

The equivalent of 0.0.0.0 on IPV4 would be ::1 on IPV6?

Interesting question: I don't know but from reading up (need to do moar) I gather that ::1 is equivalent to 127.0.0.1 and :: is equivalent to 0.0.0.0 - but don't quote me on that :)

I need to install Arousor 2.1.0 from sister site
The witches left a note that contains some adresses to block.
I'm using windows in (my user name), not in admin.
Which way is the safest to make changes to the host file?

Some say that I need to go to "properties" and set "full control" or something.
Then uncheck the "read only" option. Is that correct?
Do I have to make a back up copy of it?
    Thanks in advance, I'm nov.

In this case, it's also sufficient to block the app (DAW, PD, whatever). This is the reason why I only have six entries.
