I've been very unhappy with the fact that I don't get the "first purchase discount" because of the freebies in my UA account. There's a feature that allows to transfer the licenses to a new iLok account.

My question is: can I sell (give away) my freebies by sending them to someone else's iLok account and then delete my UA account, register a new one, buy a bundle with the discount and put my own iLok account with no UA licenses on there? Would they know/care about that?

The first purchase discount is really important to me. I wrote to their support, but to no avail. Two days without a single word. Probably the worst support experience in my entire life.

 

UAD are awful as a company for tech support, and anything involving money. Also, their tech support phone # is only answered like 4 days a week on LA time and until noon or something.

They would absolutely care if you were able to get over. I only have some unactivated UAD on mine so I can't check this. Check in your iLok License Manager and see if you can even transfer their plugins out of your iLok. You can right click the plugin and see if "Transfer License" even appears.

 

That's the thing afaik - the flaw in their system is while you can't transfer the licenses in the usual way you're supposed to do in the iLok License Manager, you could transfer (without paying any fees!) the whole account's licenses onto another account, which isn't linked to any UAD account. This is a one-off thing of course, because you can only do it two times afaik (or one, not sure about that), but it seems this would be entirely possible.

Now, this would only rely on the presumption that UAD don't track the unlinked accounts. Who knows if there's a roadblock like "this account used to be linked to a UAD account", and yet if that's the case that would also defy the whole point, because who are they to assume that I didn't originally forget the iLok's password and lost access to the email on which it was registered and now after remembering it, I want to use it for UA licenses.

A lot of hypotheticals going on here, but if this worked, this would be big. I have to admit I'm a bit crazy about this, because I really want to buy either the Studio or Signature bundles, but without the first purchase discount it would be too expensive for me right now.

 

I think it will be all in the logistics of it. I do not think they will be able to correlate the accounts. My point of concern might be ending up with it the way you want; but stuck with 2 different iLok accounts with some plugins on one, and some on the other. You want to avoid that also.

 

And that's where the Buy/Sell forum steps in. I let someone have my account for free (or maybe sell it for like 15$), they change the email, everything, transfer to their iLok account. Then I register a new one and do all of the steps above.

Right now you can get it for 211$ combined with two discounts. Insane deal. I did want to go for the Studio which would be 160$ with everything combined.

Granted, I'm a bit crazy, cause I have wanted this since it came out and now that there's a good sale I can't even get the discounts.

 

That could be possible. But I am not sure if you can just change the email address, and your account may contain personal information you may not want to have "on record" with it. That would just a trust question about the person you give the account to.

I would personally wait a few days on them getting back to you or calling them on Monday or Tuesday. They are either closed on Friday or Monday, and I just forget which .

I would make them do something to not need to do any of this just because you got a free plugin from them. And if they wouldn't do it, I would realize this company is not the kind of people I need in my life. lol

No other company would lose a possible sale over a free plugin. When I say "other company", by this; I mean any company other than UAD. It's exactly the kind of thing they do.

 

The main reason why they haven't answered is probably because I was...well trying to get a bit of a better discount. I didn't say it directly, but hinted at it in the email to them.

See, I created and sold skins and presets for PolyMAX. UAD is perfectly aware of that, both Drew himself, their teams (per his mention) and also their twitter account. He said everyone (I'm exaggerating) liked them in the company. I thought, well, maybe knowing my situation they could help me out a bit.

Guess I was a bit foolish. Well, I'm young (not an excuse, but you know). Probably their support just don't want to deal with me and I understand. After all, they're a regular company and they can't randomly give me a better discount for no reason.

You mean the first purchase discount? That's not special for me, I don't have it. But everyone who has no UAD products does.

 

Sure they can, they give people NFRs all the time. Maybe you pressed your luck too far, but that is not my guess. They take calls like 4 hours per day. Don't mistake this for me saying they will ever contact you back. They probably won't.

 

I live somewhere where I can't possibly call them without absolutely wild fees. I'm not in the US (I wish I was), Canada, the UK or Europe unfortunately.
