I'm in a bit of a dilemma and could use some guidance. I'm considering purchasing an unlocked iPhone, but I'm not entirely sure if it's the right move for me.

I've heard that unlocked iPhones offer more flexibility with carriers and can be used internationally, which sounds great. However, I'm concerned about potential drawbacks like compatibility issues or warranty concerns.

If anyone has experience with unlocked iPhones or insights to share, I'd greatly appreciate it. Are there any significant pros and cons I should be aware of?

Any recommendations on where to purchase one?

Give Apple a try

 

if you don't need a smartphone, you can save some money and headaches. I'm thinking of dumping my iphone for a flip phone. used apple for a decade plus. just overkill for anybody that owns a computer.

I don't need another app for this or an app for that, and the apparent leach over of data from real life into guided advertising is troubling.

so consider what you get back, for all that you forsake and give away.

The best online decision I have ever made is to ditch Social Networking. The second best was to stop using smart phones and start looking at the world around me. Just my 2¢

 

I buy my iphones direct from apple and not the carrier. Nowadays most (all as far as I can tell) carriers are simply offering you finance alongside your sim contract to pay for an apple phone outright. the fact that they feel they can lock them to their network makes no sense but they still do. Buy one from apple at you can use it on any network and your warranty is with apple. You used to get a better package when buying a handset from a carrier but in the UK it makes no difference. In fact you end up with 2 contracts one for the sim card and one for the phone.

 

Find the frequency bands the carrier provides. 5G and LTE are practically universal now. Match it up with the device:

You must not confuse an unlocked iPhone with a jailbreak one, they are two different things. I travel a lot and have always had unlocked iPhones, this is to have the possibility to swap the internal chip. The concept of "jailbreak" instead, is totally different: this procedure allows you to bypass protections on system folders and therefore access and modify crucial files. This is useful for example for cracking apps, but it can also put your data at risk (security flaw).
If you buy an unlocked iPhone from an official dealer you're good to go

 

They used to call these "Gold" or "Master' phones when I worked with Apple
