I think overall Ableton have put out a really good update with some really good features with Live 12. The new MIDI Functions with actual live visual feedback on the grid are amazing and the way it handles the global key track is also really great, especially with plug in intergration too. All DAW should follow Ableton's lead with these features. The improvements to midi editing are also nice. However....having moved to Bitwig and coming back to Live to try 12 out I could absolutely never go back. The Bitwig Workflow is so much smoother, logical and intuitive. Ableton feels like a dinasour in comparison in many cases now. Ableton's new browser is horrendous IMO, you take a look at the thing and your brain just stalls with over information. Infact i feel that that is apparent in many of the new featues including the mixer on arrange view, it becomes a cluttered mess for me which one thing Ableton always strived to avoid. I think overall a good update and one I would probably buy if I were still using Live but there is absolutely no way I would come back from Bitwig. hopefully Bitwig will implement ableton's method of working with scales in the future

hehe i felt Studio One does waste to much space on the GUI ... but thats opinions.

time to make a sample/plugins diet
and then people wonder why ableton scans 100 years.

Yeah! Everything works better. You can also delete Max if you never use M4L devices it's about 2gigs. I would advice you just drag that in Keka [7zip] & archive it on another disk [especially max] if you want to use it in future. Nothing Breaks.

I would suggest being careful about what you're deleting. If you delete drum samples -- drum devices like 808 | 909 would not produce any sounds. I'm okay as all my sounds and most effects come from 3rd party plugins.

I've personally not noticed any slow down, rather speed up if any.

However I find the workflow enhancements speeding my interaction with it a lot. Things like having the clip/sample edit and the plugin chain is very handy when creating track sounds while editing but not losing the clip launcher/timeline.

Same thing with the browser, the property/tag selection and especially the sound similarity search is fantastic. Yeah, the initial indexing is heavier, but after that you don't notice any difference, unless you're importing a metric fuckton of sounds I guess.

I do like the new devices (Meld is up there with the new toys in recent times), also the MIDI manglers working on selected group of notes is handy for quick variations without going full random etc. etc.

So for me, money well spent.

So far it seems very solid. Maybe a little more efficient with large projects. But the new browser is a hot mess. There has been so much launch hype about how the new browser streamlines things for you, and I get it, but no. It's really a horrible design given the opportunity to really think it through.

Get yourself a Streamdeck XL!! I love mine, I thinks it’s the best gadget I’ve bought in years. It’s even simpler than using two or three fingers for the shortcuts. Now just one push of a button! Easy peasy lol

looks like a nice little gadget, but doesn't that still require me to use both hands? it's no different than using autohotkey and mapping it to a F key or anything else. maybe i should check if autohotkey works with my midi keyboard

I am having an issue where I install some VST3, and it does not show on ableton 12. Cedesign does not help. AU versions show up. And VST3 versions also show up on other DAWs.
Anyone elses? Is it Ableton 12 more picky with plugins? Or I just need a fresh install?

I got that too with the new Trash. Also Sonible seems real buggy with 12. Smart:EQ4 crashes immediately. All my previously installed stuff was picked though.

If it is a common problem, maybe will be fixed on next updates.
Smart:EQ4 loading right here, takes the mousing wheel, and is buggy. But then it loads.
Did you clean install it, or over 11, or over 12 beta?

It's working now. I messed around with UVI Workstation & it put PACE ilok shit back. My best guess is that it fucked with it. I cleaned up the ilok mess & now it's working & ableton is smoother as always without ilok. [UVI won't work on mac without ilok being cracked...ah what a dream that is]. I guess for trash you just had to codesign it.

I know a really sucessful producer that told me if the plugin or hardware is working well, why update/upgrade?

the goal is make music, right? the music is good? is good, so updates/changes requieres adaptation and you are gonna lost time. time that you could use to make music.

His plugins is outdated, but his music is good.
The audience doesnt wanna know what is your DAW or if you installed the last EQ plugin
They will listen to the music. just that.

I dont follow the advice, I am here
