I realized I enjoy many ABBA's songs. Melodies are great but lyrics are so corny I wouldn't play them if someone is around hahaha.

So it's a bit like porn.

I have an Abba-deal with my neighbor: When I have a party outside, I like to play music really loud. It's OK for him if I mix in a song by Abba every now and then that night.

It's Coldplay for me. Instant shitload when you mention it.

    Doja Cat and Dupa Lipa

They're pop artists but the producers they work with always do incredible work with them. And they've both got good flow/vibes.

I heard a random song on the radio and liked it so much that i stopped the car and shazam'd it, turns out it was Doja Cat and i was like "well i'll be damned, i love a doja cat song".
    This one:

As for Dua, i had a client send me this song as a reference and i secretly loved it. So tasty sonically:

^ I think Josh Gudwin worked on that one.

I've heard a handful of other songs from both artists and liked them all.

Some of the best production is coming from the pop genre atm imo

I don't listen to pop in my own time, most of it is too formulaic and manufactured for me, but whenever i hear something accidentally from either of these 2 i've found it refreshing

I had used to be "ashamed of" liking, or harbor the "guilty pleasure" of, this or that band or singer, but I've become unrepentant of my tastes. Not only can one not help what one likes, but over time, one individuates resolutely against the consensus of hipness. It might have been when it was "uncool" to like Creed, but my heart said differently. Then I realized that the peers who might try to pressure me had their heads up the recta of bands whose vocalists sucked and ruined otherwise-good music – indie-rock bands, from the Replacements, to Pavement, to the Growlers, Kurt Vile, and The National. I find it shameful and deplorable to act like one loves bands who make it "okay" to sing like doo-doo, just because all the Kook Kids are supposedly into them.

Snobbish as I am, probably should not write here. Everybody that knows me would likelier be surprised that I also listen to something semi-normal. But still.

First, things that I know are shit but like regardless.
I enjoy some of Camo & Krooked works.
Weekend by Jordan Burns, specifically the slow version, legitimately pumps.
Some of other random (non-slowed) EDM and Big Room works by different authors.
RIOT are sometimes enjoyable. I like innocently trolling my meditating basshead friend with their "Meditate" track.
    LITTLE BIG – SKIBIDI. I'm sorry, it's actually a good rhythm : (
Two Steps From Hell feel good when I turn off my brain.
Some of Geoffrey Day's covers are by sheer miracle not an offensive shit. When this happens, the strength of the original carries the arrangement.
Some pop songs here and there.

Now, things I'm confident in calling good, but which get flak from other snobs (in my social circles).
Skrillex is unironically being a great producer for almost a decade already.
Leotrix' production and musical vision are quite solid. Listing him here cause heard him being called "kindergardenstep"
A Ukrainian guy named Иван Дорн happened to have a "pop music f*gg*t" reputation among those "aspiring hip-hop artists" who haven't heard a single track of his whom I had to work with. But hey, at least I had the money back then : (
deadmau5 F U C K S and I won't even have to die on that hill, whoever disagrees would. Pointlessly.
Venjent sometimes forgets he's a ticktocker and it turns out he's a serious producer in these fleeting seconds.
BTS and BlackPink. Yes you read that right. Might be my limited exposure to K-Pop, but their producers know their damn things. And boy that's a lot of things in BTS' case. Some of RM's solo stuff is also the best Hip-Hop has to offer. Speaking of Forever Rain mainly.

More recent, it's a kpop song. LOL. I don't know i just like the UK Garage, House plus some other popular electronic music genre combined together in this song. I like the MV and the pretty singer (Kwon Eunbi) too.

Another one being a song I grow up with. It's from some of post-hardcore (technically not really) bands I like, but I can't tell my mates about it. In the HCxPunk community I've been hanging and known for all my life they're considered as lame bands and would damage my reputation severely. LOL. It's by no mean bad bands in any possible way, it's just my mates are too political/radical/punk for it. I've worked on hundreds of projects in this genre since my 20s but can't be caught enjoying it.

Among my metalhead friends, I hide my love for Cradle of Filth. Most pretentious metal fans don't consider them "cool".
    Whatever that means.
Also, I sadly must keep my Ska tendencies on the dl. There are few genres that evoke such hatred from the crowd.

not really afraid to tell anything anyone tbh, and I like all sorts of contradictory music,
I guess Electric Callboy (previously Eskimo Callboy), ClownCore and Igorrr are my top 3 not so comfortable to listen loud publicly
oh and then tons of pornstars, but that's beyond scope of this forum I guess

shit, im pretty unapologetic; though im not like throwing my Madonna fandom in peoples face - like this song is the pop songwriting standard for me, its perfect, anyone couldve sung this. the way its structured and flows; the textures and groove, killer. its just dope pop songwriting on Reggie Lucas's part

it hits this simplicity that can translate so easily across cultures and regions, this couldve dropped in any decade and been a mainstream hit. like its not easy to write a song like that; but it comes off as effortless - if i grew up in the 80s, i wouldve had a crush on her because of that first album lol

Similar sentiment to what Tai-San said. All my close friends are either eclectic creative people or regular folks who are open-minded enough to appreciate the merits of things beyond their own taste.

I have business and social acquaintances, and family members who would certainly mock me for my varied tastes but I find their ignorance isn't limited to music and I keep my interactions to the bare minimum lol.

Also being a sample based producer I routinely listen to music that is beyond my personal taste to find elements that inspire my own creativity, so from that perspective it's difficult to really hate anything.

    Oh, exactly the opposite!
When I hang out with my old Blues/Rock buddies, I'll tell them I'm into the latest David Guetta thing, or Ava Max, and they go 'Waaaat!' and it's hilarious.
And at home I play pop or trance remixes or ambient or whatever, VERY loud so neighbours can't avoid hearing it (I love it LOUD) and they must wonder, is there a 19 year old in that house? But I'm 67...

My interests are in electronic music, but I always liked Conway Twitty. He was a country artist from back in the day.

Octopus-Taylor Swift, the result of a bad cloning experiment. She frequently plays the bagpipes and the accordion at the same time. Rejected by her record label, tracks are hard to find but worth the effort.

Eight days a week where she plays 8 pianos at once, is highly recommended.
here's a cover by the beatles

not really the same, but the best i can do on short notice...

well like @fishnose pointed out, I'm not a kid anymore so if I like something I can safely talk about it.. besides, i try to listen to as many genres as possible anyway so i can always learn new things and improve (one thing i really can't like is extreme metal though... at least i tried!)

Girl from Ipanema is a well-known elevator classic. You can find similar tunes in large shopping mall elevators too apparently - I have been known to hum a tune from one so that may be worse

I'm ashamed of liking some Power/Viking Metal songs and bands. It's soo cringy, more than any pop mentioned before (and close to Cradle of Filth, IMO).
