Do you agree or disagree? Are compressors ruining your songs?

 

Maybe I am blind but I hear the difference between Example 1 & Example 2 at 22 second.
The example 2 was more muddy than example 1 for me. I guess it's because sound raising and this gives more muddy sound at example 2. In my opinion poorly chosen examples.

Okey let's compare real examples, not snake oil ones.

Example 2 - Compression On Vocal + On Drums

she's making recommendations for beginners. You can ruin a mix with a compressor, or any other tool used incorrectly. And the one true point, is that beginners to learning compression often used them like they are beginners. So it's the tool beginners most often ruin their mixes with. Who knew? Throw in a clickbait title and there isn't much left.

She actually does say one example still needs a clipper.

 

So... Learn how to actually use a compressor maybe?

Example 2 did tone the screeching down a bit better.

I think there are more pressing issues with this performance than compression.

First that guy saying that soothe and sonible are ruining your mix, now this gyal saying compression is ruining your mix... People are ruining their mixes and blaming the tools. That's all i can see.

 

yes i agree.. honestly.. i personally heard so much about this.. and from my own experience i used compression many times but that was in 2009.. now i just use EQ, distortion, reverb, delay etc.. compression is really minimal.. only compression is multiband on master buss

 

Compressors ruin good recordings and fix bad recordings to sound like compressed bad recordings (the modern audio standard).

quite funny how she assumed that we need those tools to ruin our music as if it wasnt already bad enough

 

I crapped a shit ton of tracks with eq and saturation, so i will assume those tools are ruining my job

don't think about things that way.. just work and make music.. stop being a clone and follow the rules etc

 

wouldn't a low shelve solve the muddiness problem? i personally cant imagine myself doing a song without any compression
