We do not steal, software is floating on the wide blue sea, but poisoned.
Some witches has the antidote, and provide to others.

One point has not been made. And it is a valid one I think. If I have already given my money to the developer and found the product to be a bloated, buggy pile of crap with intrusive copy protection that penalizes ME and other paying customers is it really stealing if I then download and use a version of it that been fixed and healed by some kind witches? Personally, I think not.

Because I am much more worried about more serious kinds of not so called stealing: wars, banks, big corporations, low wages, slavery, neocolonialism, politics, etc.

    Simple issue to deal with:
It´s stealing if you use it and make money with it. Otherwise I see it as a qualified way to test before I buy

Most of the software I've paid for in the past has backfired on me. Either it hasn't worked properly or caused problems to my computer.

So for me, Warez isn't stealing, it is borrowing, just on an indefinite basis!

If we talk about BSD UNIX, no. No obligations at all. BSD license. But you are right regarding, for example, Linux.

Stealing is the Vst Companies to sell air for hundrends of euros/dollars because idiots instead of continue to use the cracked ones for the prices to fall , they go and buy them because they have psychological issues i cant explain it else and keep the prices up and fuck us all . Thats why prices not fall and Companies dont care about Piracy and instead use it to advertize them !!!!! We talk about stupidity at its best !!! Until those idiots change ideology i will continue to use only cracked plugins . ( taka a look at AA where the prices are still the same when all of us have all their vsts for free , 1/10 of the size and way faster ..... ) .

It's a complex issue and different users download for different reasons. If you have the money I am always an advocate of supporting the amazing work developers do (even if it's just donating the money outright), however, warez is a very appealing option for multiple reasons.

Most modern warez (especially cured releases) don't even require keygens, they're just plug and play. They're fast and easy to install, require no internet connection, can be installed on multiple devices, and a lot are optimised to run more efficiently than the legit versions. You can see the appeal, especially with all the controversy with streaming services and online platforms removing products that people have paid money and people then losing access to those products permanently. I'd rather know I have all the software I use safely tucked away on an external drive somewhere, ready to be installed whenever I need it.

Warez gives people the opportunity to fully test an unrestricted product and gives people the time they need to decide whether it is something they'll actually use longer term. Sometimes that decision takes longer to reach than most demo periods offer. Legit demos also usually require you to make an account with the developer and go through the mailing list faff, some also require an iLok account purely for a demo version. No thanks. Warez wins again, much easier and less invasive.

Then there's all the cash grabs and over the top marketing jargon that sucks people in to make cheap sales. The warez community has done a pretty good job of exposing these companies and putting plug-in through testing to see what they're actually doing under the hood. You can't just say "Hyper-realistic down to the component modelling like never before seen" and "analogue warmth" and expect people to lap it up.

The legit plug-in world is better for warez existing in my opinion.

I see it like this, especially as we move more and more in to subscriptions and these days we dont seem to own software even after we have purchased it legitimately.

"If purchasing software is not owning software, then pirating software is not stealing software" I wonder how much they'll appreciate that "consumer shit" :winker::bleh:

    Dear Crack WareZ Users,

Devs will be showing you the path to the gate of hell on the otherside ... Using cracked software is a sin and cracking their effort/investment are much more worse...

I am using around 100 cracked software so see you on other side...

If I take your car, without paying for it, that is blatantly stealing.
If I make a copy of your car, and don't pay you for it then that is not stealing.

On another take, quite a long time ago, the 1980s (40 years), when *.dll's became included separately in almost every application, some 'want-to-be-helpful' coders decided that libraries should be shared. The intent was to create a platform where code would not become like reinventing the wheel - hence "reusable code". On a Mac it is library files included with an application. This paved the way for the backdoor with the available executables for anyone well versed in assembly and reverse engineering.
You still see shared code in modern games today e.g... "Uses the Unreal engine"...there's more but that's a decent example.

As for warez, piracy and anything else anyone wishes to add a label to - "The road was paved with good intentions"... Then some people got greedy and others did not like that. As for who is right and who is wrong nowadays? I have no fricking idea.

I started copying software in 1981, passing tapes around school then moved on to floppy disks.

I took the moral stance that if I copied a copy, and the owner of the copy allowed it then I was not stealing

I have often felt Buyer's Remorse. I can't think why I paid out for Orbitron, I was disappointed as soon as I got it and tried it, and I've never used it since. :(

I used to justify it on the basis that I would never have bought it anyway so it's not a lost sale to the company. Now I don't bother justifying it and do consider it stealing but I do it anyway. Sometimes I wonder if my hobby is collecting warez plugins, apps and libraries rather than making music. I have an astonishing number of Kontakt libraries that I have barely opened but if someone posted yet another string library I'd be on it in a flash.
