you know it could be that someone (probably elon) has turned (or maybe sergei) an AI bot loose on Audiosex.pro and these are the baby steps as it attempts to troll us that it is a real human making really grand music and stuff, - now that I think about it, its probably Bill (gates)

What's all the fuss about building a gate with a window? (you certainly should work on your spelling, Garamondo!)

If you produce music, then yes you are a producer! But honestly? Who cares what someone else categorises you as?

a real producer sells vegetables and fruit. What you are looking for is musician, one who makes music.

It can become important to people working on commercially released music, because how someone is credited for the work can be tied directly into what they are paid. It's funny, but no-one ever asks this question about film/movies, when actors are also credited as Producers. Clearly they are not recording anything, filming anything, doing no post-production work, etc. What they are doing is getting paid.

A lot of "producers" in audio/music are no different. Everything is done by someone else. They just manage the process, "the artistic direction", if you will; and then take credit for all of the work. Almost like they are an A+R person, but more involved in each project. They are certainly not doing the "manual labor".

I saw a "recording of a song" video here sometime about 6 months ago, so I forget the name. But the video proceeds to show the "artist" at the studio, playing about 2 chords on a piano, hitting a snare drum a few times, telling the ME to turn up a certain part a little bit, and some other silly things "for the casual viewer". But that isn't what the guy was doing at all. Each one of those things he touched, he did so because of the credits and to fulfill the requirement of actually doing those things in his contract. "See, I played the drums. right there in the video". Wow.

It's mostly a meaningless thing, you are right. but it doesn't help that in audio, it is commonly accepted practice for people to assign themselves an occupational title such as "Engineer". In certain fields, that can actually be illegal. Medicine, Law, etc. etc. How often do people actually ask your job title? I am with @triggerflipper about the thread. It is some kind of passive-aggressive trolling. Post a "serious" topic, and then sit back and watch multiple pages of carnage.

The business as a whole does tend to take itself too seriously. You are 100% right. Probably the most hated word in music is plagiarism, well unless of course you're a music lawyer!
