I'm curious, if there are some vibrato plugins that work on acoustic instruments,
for example NI Session Strings has a straight sound, no vibrato, could we improve it, adding an external one?

 

You should use mod wheel, manually or via automation.
As a plugin you are essentially looking for a tremelo effect plugins. There are many.
The latest addition was bleass dragonfly. Melda has one in the suite. There are some free ones too, forgot the names.

Mod wheel is as simple as bad for acoustic instruments,
also checked out bleass dragonfly and MVibratoMB - both are suitable for synth/electric instruments only.

Scanner Vibrato from Martinic, creates vibrato for acustic instruments, good for guitars.

 

For Kontakt instruments, I use the venerable WIPS/SIPS - very passable for fake vibrato.

String section vibrato involves every player doing their own vibrato, blending together. Adding any type of global vibrato, even an ensemble style chorus, will almost certainly sound awful. I haven't played with NI Session in a while but I can't believe it doesn't have vibrato articulations. But if it doesn't, I think you're better off finding one that does.

Otoh, if you find something that works I'd definitely like to hear it!
