I have quit smoking through learning about the processes in our body and brain. Me as a bread addicted person quit eating bread and bad carbs just through learning and lost 14kg in 2 months. Started also intermittent fasting. And it is possible to learn also psychological aspects of our soul/brain to overcome bad habits and thoughts etc.

So, psychotherapy is paying someone a ton of money to help you talk yourself into things you should have been able to figure out yourself but couldn't unless you payed them all that money to say "yes, and"??

    That's a good one !
It's a business. When people work in some groups or workplaces, it can be usefull to psychoanalyse and reprogram the ones that are off track.
Sometimes a talk will do, but in other people that are really rebellious... well.... Then the Stanford prison experiment needs to be applyed :)

it is interesting that 56.6% believe in that.
That says something about the indoctrination.

    I'll tell you this...
When you feel sad, suicidal etc.
Go with your BARE FEET and walk on sand
    outside. Beach etc.
    1 Hour will do miracles.

I bet that 98% of you wear socks and shoes everyday.

In other words... It's all about CONTROLLL.

    History of Psychology

What do you think of this Psychology?

When you have no Self-Discipline, you can go verry fast down the gutter.

My last message on this topic...
Psychology is a tool to hold society in check.
    For example...
Do you think that Psychology is used by Indigenous peoples ?
They most likely have a shaman.
Sigmund Freud had alot of woman in his practice... but we know little about what his purpose was

Isn't that the thing though... shaman, pastor, hooker, sound engineer, spouse, life coach, random person on forum...most people just need SOMEONE to talk to. Or tell us wtf to do. And often we'll pay for it.

    You say "Pay"...
How much "taxes" do you pay per year, and see wtf is done with it?
Can you show me the real statistics what they do with the income tax?
I think it is somewhere about 50 to 54% that you pay taxes, including the tax on groceries and all things in life that you need.
So in other words... 54% of what you work for is stolen.
    Why is it stolen?
Becouse thy can turn on the money printing 24/7 and it's not even connected to a gold or silver bar.
Printing out of thin air, and you follow it. Interesting eh?

    No it is not.
Money is the most unspoken beliefsystem in the world that Socio-Psychophats use to keep us in check.
In the future you will only have a plastic card with credits on it.
They can switch you off or on with a keystroke.
Also imo "crypto currency" is the trick to get you hooked to your self enslavement.
Nothing will be "de-centralized". That is the trick.
Who owns the internet networks?... Indeed...

Now here comes my final answhere...
    Is Psychotherapy a Hoax?
    No and Yes.
It is used by the ones that then can put you in a box to controll you with substances or other things.
    Psycho-Therapy are 2 seperate words.
It's the first word that makes you wonder.

I think "hoax" is probably the wrong word for it, but I don't think psychotherapy does for people what they hope to get out of it, or what it's cracked up to be. The one element of it that I see as valuable relates to the fact that many people with some sort of mental infirmity tend to isolate. They shut down. The sit at home endlessly. They stop communicating with others. For someone like that, sitting in an office and forcing yourself to just talk to someone about what's going on can have real value. You will leave that office breathing a sigh of relief that you got stuff off your chest and feel better for a day or two. There's value in that, but it doesn't really provide a correction, it doesn't 'heal' you. It's sort of like giving you 2 aspirin for a cancer condition.

I've gotten to know a few different therapists over time. Most of them had some major problems of their own when they were younger, and came to believe that somehow that qualifies them to correct the problems of others. Unfortunately, IMO, that's total bullsh*t. Having 'insight' is very different from a knowledge of how to 'heal' or 'correct'. If you're extremely lucky and you find someone well-trained and rather intelligent, yes, they may be able to give you a hand but those sort of therapists are few and far between. Most are hacks who think somehow manipulating what you do with your life by offering stock answers and suggestions will somehow make you better. Their most basic actual goal is to figure out how to keep billing you and keeping you coming back endlessly, whether it's producing improvement or not. Medical care in the U.S. will always be a business, and as such is foundationally faulty.

Years back I became friends with a guy who in his younger days was an alcoholic and drug addict. He went into the therapy field to treat people dealing with the problems he had as a younger man. It's my understanding that many of his clients felt he helped them. Down the pike he slipped back into his old ways, and one night his wife came home and found him dead on the floor from an overdose. Turns out he had been using again for much longer than people had realized. He was using even while providing therapy to others. I think about that sad story a lot when considering the value of therapy. In the end, I think people are much better off if they can work real hard at getting to know and understand themselves better, then they are when hoping a stranger who you know little about will somehow do it for you.

My advice is don't take drugs, don't abuse alcohol, stay away from prescription medication if you can, investigate traditional remedies, eat cheap healthy food in moderation, drink lots of clean filtered water, avoid processed food and chemical preservatives, have a doable excercise plan, end toxic relationships, stay informed and avoid all commercial TV news & newspaper manipulation. Also read about Freud's nephew Edward Bernays, and his work in advertising, public relations and propaganda.

Who are you replying to? (The OP made no arguments).
It also seems that you have a typo or something: "...and chemical processes are not despised at all".
    Despised?

I agree very much. Hence I'm worried about the new trend of "e-health", that evolves around startup creating investor-funded digital apps, that are supposed to provide the same health services digitally and automatised, without any human interaction between patient and therapist. This promises huge profit margins for the investors in those companies, because once the app is developed, they have very little running costs (no therapists to pay) and can sell their "service" to as many clients they like.

In my country our neoliberal-conservative health minister at the time (3 years ago or so) even changed the laws, so that these "e-health" providers can now charge the public health insurance, basically grabbing money from the public, to the benefit of investors, while leaving clients further socially isolated.

It may be beyond the realms of psychotherapy to "cure" narcissism or that the term is scientific, but I have no doubt that narcissist is a good word to describe excessively self-centred people.
