I'd say it's selective hearing.

I tune out most alarm clocks, as a result I have to use a phone I got back in 2002 to wake me up. The old Nokia's digital ring is so bad I can't ignore it.

It's not that I can't hear them, it's more my brain dosn't register it exists unless I'm listening for it.
I could go on about the science of how sound is changed to electrical nerve impulses and our brains don't send regular unimportant impulses to protect themselves. Like how some people don't hear a humming noise in the house untill they've been away for a few days or beaping fire alarms with dieing batteries but you've probably convinced yourself you're going dealf by now so i'll just land on deaf ears.

I also just think of this clip from Dr Dolittle when people say they don't hear some things.

I hate to hear this but your positive attitude is making my day. Kudos! It's gonna hit us all, sooner or later. I hope I can age philosophically and with grace. I'm handling it so far....

Check where you live...
Are there any high frequency cell towers nearby?
and second... are you a natural person?
With natural i mean, no pills and stuff.

If you have the tools to get away for one week from where you live now, you can analyze these sympthoms.
