Been re-reading "Future Shock" by Alvin Tofler, originally printed 1970. So now its 50 years plus since this opus was penned.

Thoughts so far... Its pretty thick in a voluminous sort of way. He must have been paid by the word, he sure put a lot of them on paper. He was more wrong than right. He made a stab at predicting the new lands without a map or a vision.

The chapter and section titles would make a great album.
Part One - The Death of Permanence
chapter one - The *800th Liftetime -the Unprepared Visitor, Break with the Past.

Chapter Two - The Accelerative Thrust -Time and Change, Subterranean Cities, The Technological Engine, Knowledge as Fuel, The Flow of Situations..

and on it goes
The table of contents is 6 pages. The book is nearly 500 pages including references.
I skip around alot.

its interesting to read it with hindsight and realize how many false trails he mapped out.
anyhow if anybody is looking for creative inspiration or ideas, this tomb is bound to release a few sparks.

 

Wasn't Future Shock a title of an early Stratovarius album?

 

At least it's a Herbie Hancock album.

 

Now you've piqued my interest, retrofuturology tends to be interesting, even when it's plain wrong. I'm aware of the book, and I think it was influential in it's time... says something that even I know of it

I happened on it at a thrift store for $1.

apparently toffler wrote a dozen or more books. they also have a 150 page FBI file on Toffler on the archive.
interesting time we live in...
