Late 2013 21" Imac Screen Problem

Discussion in 'Mac / Hackintosh' started by Vincent Price, Jan 7, 2024.

  1. Hello

I have just upgraded the SSD on a late 2013 21" iMac, and upon installing the new adhesive and putting the screen on it, the left hand side of the screen seems to jut out, and at first I thought the the adhesive on that side hadn't taken, but now looking at it, it isn't touching the adhesive.

If it hadn't taken to the adhesive it would still sit there flat to the chassis, but as it juts out I think that something isn't sitting properly on that side of the iMac. What you think (See photo)

The gap is quite prominent, so that is what makes me think that something isn't sitting right. I know silly me for not resting the screen against the chassis first before putting any adhesive on. But don't forget I haven't taken an iMac apart before this. I only worked on Mac Mini's and MacBook Pros.

get new adhesive, disassemble again, check why there is a gap and then put it back together again without a gap.

Hi Mate, have you checked that all the screws which hold the lower bracket are fully screwed in? also was all the previous adhesive strip fully removed on that side. Are the speakers fully screwed home - if you removed that side. Just a few things to check - good luck!

is it the same side of it, where the drive replaced used to reside? You should always take pictures of something as you disassemble it.

  6. No, the pcie m.2 resides on the right hand side. This is on the left hand side, I have taken the screen of again and found that the left hand speaker wasn’t sitting properly and was sitting a bit up to where it was meant to be, I have placed the monitor in situ to check and the left hand side now sits flush

  7. It was the speaker, upon placing it properly and fitting everything back in and putting the screen back on, everything sits flush.
