You’ll never believe what’s just happened, I explained to him that I have a whole bunch of ‘studio engineers’ who work with these things day in and day out and they know what to tool look and they’ve all said that it is a counterfeit

I have also said I’m in talks with shure at the moment

He said did I want to bring it back today and I said my mate can’t drive me as he is working tomorrow. So I said could I post it, to which he said yes

However I said I’d have to get the refund first before I posted it off (what’s to say he’d get it then never issue a refund)

He asked for bank details, them within a few minutes I got £200 back in my bank lol

He apologised repeatedly so I don’t know if he realised he’d been caught out or way but I appreciate his cooperation

Just looked at thomann and they said that for UK customers they have a special thing were the price you see if the price you pay, no extra charges
Like customs etc so will get one of those

Oh ffs, just tried to buy a sm7b from thomann and they’ve taken the money but their payment thing threw an error and did place the order

Yeah got in touch with them, I’m not impressed. They’ve got my money with no order listed on order page or no confirmation

 

I didn't mean it as a personal attack, and yes, it's amateur psychoanalysis.
I do think it's very common for people to look for a good deal, and no shame in that, even if there is some risk (older model, used, etc).
And I was half-joking with the gambling addiction thing, but ONLY half- because that is pretty common as well, even if the games vary a lot...
I consider myself in this, never having risked much money in getting deals, but gambled away a lot of time.
If one has the money to risk, I'd say that is the wiser path...

And of course Shure is going to say the latest version is the same or better. Literally every audio manufacturer does this with their products. Saying "The manufacturer says it's an improvement!" - when the manufacturer has a very vested interest in having everyone buy what they're currently making - is a silly argument.

This is making me paranoid now wondering if the one I bought from Amazon a year back is genuine or not. Amazon themselves was the seller (i.e. non-marketplace), but if the counterfeiting is at this level, and given Amazon's known issues dealing with fakes/counterfeiting, might there be a chance I could have a fake?

 

Direct from amazon should be ok (Shure have an online store), just check the capsule height.
