Well it’s done now, all I can do is look inside it tomorrow to confirm it is once and for all. Then sell it on as a copy. What else can you do

 

I bought my SM7b a few years ago. I've just checked mine with the YT video posted on here and mine is real. So probably best if you do the same. I think it's a good guide. If you have a fake then I'm sorry for you mate - happened to me a few years ago with something else - a lesson learned and I moved on. All the best.

This seems a case of wanting the deal to be true so much that one ignored all warnings and clues.
So, whatever potential savings in actual money had nothing to do with it.
It was all about the potential "win".

The fact is that it is that the quality is that good, and bear in mind I haven’t had an sm7b before.

I looked at the videos and countless others online before going for the microphone and when I got there everything checked out. I wasn’t blinded by want or anything else, I did my checks and it is obviously that good of a copy that it can pass
For the real thing.

So it's fake? For them to make that nice of a fake, that has to be a very big operation. The manufacturing involved in all those non-geniune things is crazy.

The height of the capsule is the main giveaway.

Julian Krause makes excellent audio equipment review videos, I just wish he was more prolific, but at least he taught me how to spot a fake mic.

I misspoke in my post. I meant to write SM57/58 in addition to the SM7B. I'll go back now and edit that.

What makes them attractive are the numbers of them that are sold which are in the millions. Knockoffs can be I am shure (pun intended) be ill-gotten for cheap and it seems like easy money to be made as a side hustle. On the used market they can easily slightly make one look as it has been...used...and can be sold without the box or any sticker to identify it. I don't want to have to play detective to buy a sub 100 buck microphone and thankfully can afford to. I currently don't have one but if I was to purchase any of those microphones it would be from my local and trusted music store.

Maybe, or maybe he truly believes that, or maybe that's what whoever sold it to him told him. Doesn't matter, what's important is that you can get you money back and forget about this whole thing, maybe save a little and buy one from an authorized store.

 

It means he's probably selling a lot of fakes. Most buyers don't notice. He doesn't want his business shut down and he'd rather refund than take the risk of you causing a commotion and getting the police involved. (Even though police probably wouldn't care.)

Return and get your money back if you can.
