Does anybody here still use the older Arturia soft-synths? emulations like the Jupiter 8 V1/V2 or the ARP2600 V1/V2. The GUI always looked much cleaner to me. I've been trying but I can't find a way to run the AIR release on my win10 machine. Are they still worth getting?

I was thinking to uninstall the actual version and get back to an older one too. But the one I have is x86 only from 2011 :woot:

I've always thought the originals sounded much better than the newer updated versions. So much more juicy and analog sounding.

For real, does anyone have any side by side comparisons? I too have heard the old ones are better but never tested myself.

I'm particularly interested in the ARP 2600 and CS-80 comparisons.

The "Magic Version Theory". I am always a skeptic about this; because how often do any of these developers re-write an entire program or plugin? As infrequently as possible. How would you even compare them, a simple null test of what? Various components that may get re-written, like filter sections or each oscillator, etc? Where to even start to get a complete picture?

You've summed up my feelings about it, that's why I wanna hear a comparison.
Arturia have their patented TAE (True Analog Emulation) thingy, they say they improve it with every version, so theoretically what they consider improvements may sound like regression to users.
Tbh I don't care that much, people say the Mini V sounds like shit compared to other emulations, I think it sounds good enough to have fun and make music.

It's very obvious in the sound, the older ones are much more raw sounding. It is a fact that Arturia 'updated' and modernized the sound in the V3 versions. No magic theory, reality.

Our memories are often exagerrated and better, or worse; than the changes to the software ever account for. I can think of some software they really screwed up, like Acid or Geist; but usually those aren't even sonic changes.

Pick an example where the installers are still available then. If they recreate the entire plugin for a deliberately different sound, you would hope they would be different. I already mentioned this.

There are Hexwars releases of ARP2600, Modular, Jupiter, Mini, Prophet, and CS-80 at v 2.6/2.7. The entire V Collection may be more difficult to find as V2 (for Mac, anyway)

I just got the V collection 4, and instantly, i could notice a difference. Not only in the sounds, but primarily in the Presets... way more usable stuff in there IMO.

What version did you have before it? Or to test against.. The synths in V collection "4" are almost all version 2 for each synth.

I'm still using Minimoog from Team AiR and CS 80 also. Somehow I like better tone of those versions than a all newer or latest. I think it was good until release of Arturia Oberheim SEM V v1 afterwards, nah.... And think maybe that would be Arturia V Collection V5.
