Too many times saying he doesn't use cracked software. Yeah!! He's definitely downloading! He would never get through a 3 min police interrogation without breaking down and confessing. Yeah......guilty!

@westfinch I don't know that he is though. Maybe at one point, but as someone who worked in sales at a big pro audio retailer for years, those NFRs will absolutely keep you off of torrenting. You'll stop torrenting stuff altogether, because in most cases, you just say what NFR you wanted, and you get it the same day. There are exceptions of course, on a per company basis. UAD, for example, required you to buy a Universal Audio product their plugins could run on (this was just a few years ago, so native UAD had not been released... publicly that is), and then their NFR license gave you ALL UAD plugins. So, I bought an Octo satellite and have kept the NFR updated. I still get to use all of the plugins they had circa 2021, and still get the new ones as they come out for free. That'll lapse if I don't update them all for 365 days.

All this is to say: He's not necessarily wrong about any of these things, and he probably doesn't have to torrent most things he wants to get. Maybe some. But he's also not wrong that in a lot of professional applications, it can get at a minimum messy to try and use cracked plugins when you have to share projects with other people.

Maybe with an all UAD NFR, you may not need very much else for recording/mixing plugins. Sweetwater sells many other software titles, but most others do not anymore so you may end up downloading some things anyway (synths,etc). But those salespeople would get NFRs from UAD reps because they would be actively selling their products and also buying one for themselves. I am very skeptical these "youtubers" get many licenses like this at all. Snake Oil guy (white sea) comments all the time about not being given plugin licenses to evaluate software. I've never even seen a video from this guy before, but Luca Pretolisi is pirating Plugin Alliance? Sure. I'd believe that one.

 

you know, the studio is very big and a lot of young musicians come and install their downloaded stuff on the computer so who knows who did it.

He should have called the video "I need to talk out loud for a while about a bunch of stuff that probably 90% of persons who are likely to be watching this have already thought about a long time ago and moved on from".

It's like he's having a pot conversation with himself. "Oooh, I'm having deep philosophical thoughts about cracked software, oooh!

 

It's just a flat out clickbait video in my opinion.

The cracked software has been around for a long time. However, it was the release by R2R with the AA plugins that motivated Paul to talk about it. That's what I found interesting.
