If Acustica Audio can see your modified plugins cant others too and how do you deal with this?

Which is why, we have the scene to help us out in that regard.

The functions used by common "Share Usage Statistics" are more relative than any Remote Access/Remote Administration Tool. It's probably something as simple as a vlookup to compare the files that are expected vs actually there. Mix a bunch of releases with legit versions on a non-connected computer and see what happens, if you care.

take hold of the wifi card/LAN cable, and rip it out of the system

if you bought a fancy MB with wifi chip onboard, you are kinda fkd cos you cant disable that fully (physically) imo (or maybe get your soldering gun out, and then your wallet for a new MB)

Microsoft Windows has become a sort of group big data farm, join the herd

ok here is another question., if you have ilok plugins can you run a second ilok account side by side? cause those online selling licenses usually ask you for a ilok account to put them on.

you can easily block your daw with the built in windows firewall. I've been doing that with FL Studio for just over ten years. The important thing though is to also block your DAWs plugin Scanner.. FL Studio uses ILBridge to scn for plugins. You must block that too.

Block your Daw and whatever your DAW uses to scan for plugins.

You should have no issues after that.

One thing I have also been doing is completely turning of my internet connection while installing plugins. R2R say this sometimes in their NFOs and install read me files.

I don't know, really, but i've never had any problem with it.

Seriously though ...I use WFC (link in my sig).
Just use Medium profile and make sure to turn notifications ON.
You can integrate it into your context menu, but as it blocks by default and asks you , I don't see the need for that.
Never had any issue running thousands of things, but only a few legit (but NEVER mixing legit and non-legit of same product).

That's the key word: as far as we know.

I assume that all those "Downloadmanagers/Installhelpers/Activators"* or whatever they are called can see everything on my PC. And if I use my account in admin context (or allowed the App to install "as admin"), I also have to expect that they can do everything an admin can do. And if I want to use the software, I can't exclude them in the HOSTS or in the firewall. :dunno:
One can never be sure what is transferred besides the updates or libraries!

Life is the most complicated and dangerous that we know! :guru::rofl:

So these *) are actually backdoors that are installed with our consent. In the worst case, they could even crash my computer if they wanted to.

    - If possible I download apps on a clean machine and
    - install by hand (most of the time they D/L *.exe to "C:\users\$username$/local/temp" or other places where they don't need admin rights or folders I can choose. Stop App install and copy the files to where I want.
    - use R2R where ever I can
    - use a firewall with default blocking
    - make extensive use of HOSTS

Ok thanks, I grabbed it, but my firewall needs are quite simple, i.e. block everything except Brave browser.

Plugins can open URLs in your browser, submitting the juicy bits as parameters (https://blabla.com/?machine-id=1653151&etc). I think Fabfilter did/does this.

If you're on Windows, you could set your default browser to something you don't plan on using, firewall that one off and continue using your 'real' browser as normal.

So why consent? No else is going to look out for your best interests other than yourself. If you take proper steps to keep yourself safe "they" can't do shit... Otherwise who knows. I always assume the worst until it's proven that something less actually exists.

the only things I ever see for sale are legit scene releases that we all have access to for free anyway and complete scams that give you nothing in return (except maybe malware). I'd be surprised if you'd get anything but ripped off with some ru ilok scheme

It's rare that I read something terrifying on the internet, well most of the time it didn't surprise me anymore but today I saw someone wrote this on the sister's site :

"Once, I told Acustica that my Aquarius account was blocked and they immediately sent me a SCREENSHOT OF MY COMPUTER SCREEN, which showed that Aquarius was launched with a completed account login (created temporarily to communicate with tech. Support) I'm not sure they don't steal any other information by taking screenshots of my screen. My trust in them is completely destroyed. With the heavy protection of their plugins, they protect themselves, but I no longer feel protected from them. May the R2R team, which not only gives opportunities, but also protects me, be blessed."
