It's true, but that said, if you use it wisely on each sound you aim to tame, it works flawlessly to the point of not killing the transients (if you know what you're doing and know where to stop of course). Soothe1 wasn't my thing but the new algo in Soothe2 is just outstanding. No wonder everyone is after it and they keep it that expensive while (almost) never offering sale on it... it's better than Gulfoss and DSEQ all combined.

It does stuff that's almost impossible to re-recreate even using 3 instances of Fabfilter. And it saves sooo muccch tiiiiime.

I feek like this is the take closest to mine. I got it after seeing so many rave reviews on gearspace and whatnot, but was overall disappointed. There have been afew times when it has helped out with a quick fix solution on a project I wasn't too invested in, but I never end up keeping it on anything I deem important. It certainly wasn't the magical solution many made it out to be. Same with gulfoss, which I also ended up stopping using after some volume matched tests. For everything they help fix, they seem to take away just as much. That's just my opinion though, and I'm sure it's a useful tool for many producers.

Oh yeah, I was completely amazed at Soothe's results because I thought I was set with DSEQ since I previously owned it along other TBPro Audio plugins but I just could not turn my back on it after having my eyes peeled the first time I used Soothe. I don't use it everywhere, mostly just for 3 or 4 types of applications as I mentioned before.

Yeah, that's it. I love to mess around with transients even with sound design, it does a lot of interesting things but I haven't tried Spiff yet. Oh cool, thanks for the heads up skim over my emails so I may have missed some emails but I'll be on the lookout for the announcement.

I imagine that you just load in chord progression and it would automatically suck certain bits that resonate too much and take certain tones out? Interesting either way, I wouldn't have thought to do that on my own in a million years. Pretty mindblowing.

Absolutely. Soothe2 and SPIFF are magical plugins. Worth every cent.

Then maybe you use it 'wrong'? Soothe, DSEQ, TEOTE are spectral dynamic EQs. Their main purpose it to tame frequency variable spikes. And here they're unbeatable. Neither a static EQ, nor a dynamic EQ (which still has a static freq) can do this.

I use it sometimes. I always start with Nova or Pro-Q3 for taming resonances though, and if those can't get it done, I go to DSEQ or Soothe.

Soothe is the only one I don't own. If I did, I maybe would've used it more often, but I feel that DSEQ is so similar that it doesn't matter if you choose one or the other. It depends more on your workflow, and I use DSEQ for purposes other than just taming resonances, so it's a more natural choice for me.

Good tool to have in your arsenal. Highly recommended. Soothe and DSEQ work differently. I use them both for different purposes.

How differently? I'm curious to know when to choose which for optimal use. Regards.

I can't speak for him but DSEQ doesn't reach as low or as high in the frequency range as Soothe. Maybe it was the version I tried back then and that has since been phased out of that particular version of DSEQ but Soothe just did a better job at catching all of the frequency range.

Having said that most people would probably be just fine using DSEQ for most applications. After all, I didn't realize how limited Trackspacer was until DSEQ and Soothe came into the picture and it used to be one of my favorite plugins.

I just checked (again), 10 - >20.000Hz (Nyquist) is sufficient, I guess? :winker: Maybe that's been different with the first versions.

LOL I'm a little tipped right now but this made me laugh way harder than it should have! But yeah it wasn't really reaching down into 40 hz or moving towards 20,000 khz back in late 2019 or was it early 2020, I can't remmember. Much like Trackspacer, DSEQ handled mid range much better than the outskirts. DSEQ is miles above Trackspacer though but Soothe is just inches above DSEQ for me, personally. But that's why I mentioned the date, maybe it hasn't been an issue for a long time and I'm just blabbing about the past.

But, I did a side by side with a frequency visualizer just 'cause I was curious and I decided Soothe was just slightly better for the way I wanted to use it. Not to take any weight off DSEQ because that's a bitchin' tool too and sometimes I would reach for DSEQ over Soothe because DSEQ was just crazy responsive whereas soothe was... well more soothing (lmao) and gentle across the entire frequency field.

but anyone can get the (Kellogg's version of DSEQ as to buying the sooth2 with its over priced tag..
Sooth2, El Rey, UAD's STUDER800/NVE/Harrison/API/Manley/FATSO/HALIOS/Avalon/Culture Culture/Precision Buss Compressor etc and Softube's Tube Tech are the hottest plugs

no. too cpu heavy and absolutely nothing special. i can do the same thing with dynamic eq. and in most cases, it sounds better and cleaner.

TB Pro DSEQ does according to most...then a whole spills including isotope ozone 11, I think today we might have something at a tenth of the price.

I still use it from time to time, but I mostly keep it installed so I can open old projects.

It's for sure quicker to work with for removing resonances than DSEQ, but I just don't find myself needing to use it very often. IMO, TDR Nova GE works better for resonance suppression because you can actually remove the resonances almost completely without a ton of artifacts. In most situations the resonances in a track are static in pitch, and in these situations Nova is way more transparent. Soothe and DSEQ are far from transparent when used heavily.

I do use DSEQ quite a lot though, but for other tasks.

Open Soothe, select the area which is annoying you, adjust the big knob, done.

It's that simple. For me, I have tried all of them and, for example, soothe2 and teote/gullfoss doesn't sound the same. Soothe2 can fix resonances but also depending on the settings it can do tone balance for you. Teote & gullfoss are doing automatic Eq, yeah some resonance taming too but not as easy and not as surgical as soothe2 IMO and according to my tests. I've tried DSEQ and it feels heavy and also I spend more time tweaking than Soothe2

soothe is ok for tweaking fixing vocals, and a decent bandwidth, but you can do everything else with the other plugins, Teote, Guffoss, DSEQ more better choice as it sounds as close to soothe and even baby audio smooth operater for the general soothe type stuff but less tweaking abilities.
So what are you using it for?
