yeah, they are the similar EQ with slight difference in curve and proportional gain+Q behavior. 250 is tighter at the extreme 12db boost at the same Q value of 2. It can't be matched (at the extremes) because the overall shape is different for the affected frequency around center freq say around +/- 0.3db range or so. for 1-2db boost, they look almost identical. TMT also affect the freq, q and gain in a way. Same harmonic generation on same THD value for both suggesting if the curve can be matched, they will cancel each others out perfectly or 99%.

As usual you came through with the info that counts. Seems like mobile devices won't be able to take advantage of its full capabilities, but I'll take it for a spin for a few days to see how one instance behaves on the main bus and see if it's worth having anywhere else, then I'll report back. Not the right place to post this but I discovered this plugin 2-3 months ago. I think it's my most used plugin recently. EQing seems boring these days. This one does the job really well, transparently. I just love the GUI, super fast workflow, quick effective result. Can be used everywhere you can load a plugin, FX returns everything. Super low CPU for its type of processing too. I think Im using around 30 instances of this minimum every mix. Mostly for subtractive job to tighten things up. Thought I share it here for fun.

Too boomy ? remove sustain at 100Hz. kick still punch through but thinner and solid.
Hihat/percusion too noisy ? remove sustain on high end, you get nice thin full-body bright clean sparkling hihat.
Can shape the whole low end and high end with ease with the overall frequency balance and dynamics of the track give or take stays the same. Unlink channel, free stereo movement. Most epic plugin I've discovered in 2023.

As much as I do like what the EQ200 brings, I often gravitate towards the SOMA since by the time I get to an end-stage, I've already incrementally added a lot of, if not all of the "color" that I need on a track throughout the mix. The SOMA allows me to work clean, but not SPL/Millennia-clean. But it all really does depend on the mix; even my own tracks vary enough that I use a wide range of plugins. Haha, admittedly, I'm always half-excited to be working with any instruments or audio elements that ended up very clean and unassuming, so I can torque the fuck out the dials on something by NEOLD or KIIVE or Klanghelm or, gawd-forbid, dive into Vertigo's VSM-3.
More is more... right? ... ... right? *crickets chirping*

A bit like an MB transient designer...which is like an MB compressor - but with the additional parameters you mentioned.

just to make sure, is it compressing MB style or doing it the Dynamic EQ style where the compression happening in parallel ? I think it's doing it in parallel because the result is quite transparent, like how a Dynamic EQ will give you where MB comp is not that subtle.

Ozone 11 Dynamic EQ also capable of doing the same thing at zero latency.

 

Haha, I was having this conversation recently with someone who was like "... my trick is using multi-band compression on the master..." I'm like, "... that is a ghatdam disaster waiting to happen."
In fairness, a lot of people *can use it without harming their audio, but he's just a little too excited about Multi-Band Compression and has... we'll say, less experience than might be recommended to be throwing that on a Master. But, it's his music so...

I hadn't looked at HOFA in years, and the Transient's capabilities, coupled with low CPU usage is attractive. But, they require a plugin manager, which I generally try and stay away from, but on the plus side, they support offline authorization, and you can even delete the plugin manager afterwards (tho it'd be preferable to not have to install it at all.) And, I think you have to continue using the jumpdrive (USB stick, whateverwhatever,) as a dongle? It doesn't seem like that should be the case—it seems that you should be able to just place the license on your PC somewhere—but that's how it's made to sound. "To free up space, the HOFA-Plugins Manager can also be deleted after the installation is complete. However, the folder “HOFA_Licenses” containing the licenses shall not be removed or renamed. [...] As long as the USB drive is plugged into your device, the plugins are licensed on your computer. The same USB drive can also be used on different devices, the plugins on a device being active for as long as the USB drive is plugged into it." Seems that you could place the license on you PC and then direct the plugins/manager to it instead... ?
Also, it's over a bill... on sale.

 

TBH, I lack the theory of this. I see it more from the practical side, MB compressors are mostly used for the whole spectrum (that's why I use them rarely), dyn EQs are more for specific freqs. Additionally, shelves and belles have of course different shapes and especially surgical operations are better done with dyn EQs.
EDIT: OTOH, MB compressors have more precise time controls.
But I often use a single band of an MB compressor to tame boominess (mostly in combination with a dyn or a spectral EQ).

MB compressor and limiters are probably the most difficult tools to handle.

 

I looked into that plugin after seeing the post about it because on Mac it has been quite a while since we have seen Hofa plugins. Usually they are the HY plugins and I never end up trying them either. Anyway, obviously, the r2r microphones are working: HOFA.IQ-Limiter.v2.0.2. DATE : 2023.11.10. Which one is this pictured, Transient? Very new, Intro offer: Only 99.90 €

It looks basically like ADAPTR Sculpt with some added "magic boost". That's the tilt parameter that makes their account go up and yours go down $100.

 

I was looking for something else, but along the way I found this that I believe wont mean anything to any of us but yeah I thought I just share it here. It's the AMEK 9098 Compressor that was modeled for the bx_console AMEK 9099 channel strip plugin. It's quite unique where it's a hybrid compressor but one thing I learn is that the gain reduction was done by a digitally controlled VCA. I think it's the hottest technology at that time, Roland Juno too I guess ? I thought the overall gain reduction was done by a DSP and the DA was done after the gain reduction but apparently I was wrong about that. Learn new thing everyday.

 

And seemingly with RMS feedforward and peak feedback detection.
