Looking to integrate one of my old intel celeron laptops into my portable setup for production of mainly old school jungle.

Managed to find a cracked copy of Live 4 and came across many other old scene related cracked plugins. Does anyone have experience or recommendations with working with early 2000s music production software that they would recommend that can run on such a CPU. From what I’ve seen a lot of people preferred old school Cubase and also of course trackers.

Any advice from some old heads would be very much appreciated.

Cubase SX or Cubase 3.7 VST, Logic Platinum 4.11 with ES-1, SoundForge 5 or around there, Wavelab, whatever FL version that had the TS404 included, Acid 3, 4, or 5, Jeskola Buzz, Audiomulch, Dream Tracker or Fast Tracker. Massive 1 will work. Waves bundle, probably Mercury bundle, URS classic Compressor bundle. Rebirth. d-lusion Rubber Duck (tb303) .

Scan every single thing you download or depending on where you get them; you will also have a good sizable variety of RATs and other virii running on the machine by that point. keep it off the internet. Some annoying stuff like Junkie, NYB, and CIH circulated commonly, but also SubSeven. v1 will open port 1243, v2 will open port 27374 by default. Keep it off the internet. That is one of the most exploitable operating systems ever. Use Zone Alarm if you really have to put it online.

Does the machine have SCSI? If you have a sampler, you can use Recycle 2.0 for transfers (not 2.1), or you can get Zero-X Beat Creator/Beat Quantizer.

Thanks for the tips. Will remove the Wi-Fi and disable Ethernet drivers. Do you think it could even be better to use windows 98 instead or XP? Or even vista by any chance?

Used to have access to an Akai S1000. Was thinking of getting a S2000 or saving up and for a S1100 or EMU e4xt. And no SCSI port unfortunatly.

Just keep it off the internet. Any old files you get which could be problematic will be usually silent unnoticed things, or no-one would still share those files. Annoying stuff like password stealers, keyloggers, etc. Like you mentioned, someone will find an old drive or whatever, and then upload them because they were scene releases. 98 is not a better option. Make sure everything is clean before installing, because you really do not want virus scanner and security software on this thing. It will make performance much worse.

Don't forget about Akaizer then if you don't have a sampler. https://the-akaizer-project.blogspot.com. If you find a sampler at some point, a scsi card to stick in an old pc can be found for like 10-20 dollars. Find a copy of the original Paulstretch if you can. It will run on a really old pc and is good for making abstract pad sounds.

a few others: You can get most or all of the stuff from Komplete 1 to run. Reaktor you can probably run v3 or v4. Amplitube v1 will work.
