How to make drums sounds like this?

    Hello, I've been wondering what would people's thoughts about getting drum sounds like in this song:


    I think they sound so good and I'd like to mess around to get a result something similar.
    The instrumental creator of the song said he worked hard to make drums sound they are "boom"ing with his guitar quite often.

    Compression, drive and eq (low mids and bass freqs) are your friends here. Maybe doctor the highs to make em pop but not much.

    Sounds like they mixed in synth samples for kick/snare, possibly more?

    If you delete the mids it sounds like this. Sounds absolutely terrible to me.
    It really is a mess. :thumbsdown:

    Eq/saturation/gate/compression/reverb + processed samples layered to kick and snare

    Sounds like one-shot triggers, lots of machine gun. And turn down the cymbals/overheads until people say "hey, are there cymbals in this song?"
