Can anyone speak to the reason why the most recent WiN releases were removed? There were several concerns from the community about false positives and other gremlins… If something was found in the releases and it was malicious in nature, I would hope the mods or members would be kind enough to explain why they were pulled or what was found… Cheers.

 

All recent Audio Modeling posts were taken down. No doubt the developer became involved.

 

The virus claims appear to be false positives. No one is reporting nefarious deeds being unleashed on host machines. My scanner didn't reveal any issues. The keygen for the latest winrar release set off more alarms than any of these, and no one spoke a peep.

 

Thr worst I've heard is that these versions are very slow to load, and possibly prone to crashing as a result of the crack. But nothing nefarious. They are still lurking (for the moment) on other trackers...

Positive detections. (false or not), some posts mentioned that VMprotect was used. The mac version of the SWAM bundle is still there, and that would probably be gone too if it was the developer's complaint.

So is it safe or not to install this? I downloaded it but didn't open the folder yet. It was brought by P2P (if I'm correct) that till now I thought was safe.
EDIT: I now see a .txt file named lies.txt: is this a new team? On RT people are concerned, I don't know what to do but for now I'll not install and wait for more infos

lies is user who uploaded it, not the name of a "team". VMprotect could be used to conceal the method used to break it, but that is also a way of making it difficult for someone to put it into a sandbox like Sandboxie, etc. It could be to try getting it past VT scanner using sandboxes, too. Many people downloading with no complaints does not necessarily mean it is safe to run. It's not going to take over your computer if you download it and do not run it. Wait a while and maybe you can make a more informed decision later.

I wouldn't worry about it at all, but when ppl on the russian trackers act paranoid it's not going to hurt waiting a little. but that guy lies has had the same account on other site for 17 years. he's not going to upload a virus like that. but the way the world is going these days, he could be sending out Stuxnet v2. I guess that would only be problematic if you are running some centrifuges.

 

Yes, I think if something is removed from the Sister site, it would be nice to be told why. If it has a virus or strange coding, it wold be helpful to be told. I downloaded and tested it on a 'test' machine and it works fine (but you never know whats going on in the code). If I experience anything I will let people know.

You mean we should have a sub-forum here at AS Recently removed from AZ and why ? Mh, in case of any malware it could be useful, that's right, but we would need a definite proof for such a statement...

 

All three were infected with Packed.VMProtect.ACR trojan which is ransomware. Please scan your PC with malware if you installed. My virus protection scanned and automatically deleted it. Hopefully some one will post a clean copy.

 

The "release" were unclear, and potentially dangerous, that's why they were removed.

 

So if I only opened the text file and not the .exe I don't have to worry and just leave it there or delete it?
