  2. Since Reaper 7 is now out, as a long-time FL Studio user I wanted to know whether switching to Reaper (7) is worth it? The only thing I've seen is that when Reaper opens VSTs the big window still appears, which I find annoying, it's still the same with the new released version
and I saw that you can change the entire Daw in Reaper's Daw. Is that just a mod or can you really use it and do it freely? I've seen that you can change it in FL Studio, of course it's still the same Daw but I'm thinking about it because it looks really easy in terms of the workflow, what do you think?

    Yup - I did a few months ago :)

Why do i get the feeling that many of the people who put Reaper down are the same people who post "wheres my samples folder at bro?"

For you and others commenting on the "new" theme.. maybe I haven't used it enough, but it doesn't seem really that much different than the old v6 one. Definitely some changes, but it's a pretty minor update by my eyes.

That said, I never liked the v6 theme, to begin with, and I don't see this new theme as an upgrade. WhiteTie is a nice guy and all (mostly sarcasm here), but I think he feels he knows what's best for Reaper's UI, and doesn't give a crap about what users actually want. So, while I think he's quite a knowledgeable fellow, I'm kind of of the view that he's probably the weakest link on the Reaper development team. I'd almost say that his role should be split in half. He can come up with the code (WALTER, or whatever it may be) to build UIs off of, as I'm sure he's good at that.. but someone else should implement it and build some much nicer looking UIs. Just my 2 cents. Of course, that possibility already exists, I just wish it looked better out of the box.

On that note, the saving grace though is that Reaper's UI is quite customizable, and as such, there are loads of themes out there that you can use.. many far better than the stock themes. It's hard to please everyone, so having a very customizable UI is a great feature.

On top of that, of course a UI doesn't make songs, so it isn't SUPER important, but when you stare at this screen as much as we do, it is nice to stare at something that is nice to look at (no I'm not saying make all the radio buttons boobs :) ).

I agree with one of the other people that essentially said the UI is dated, though.

If what you like in FL Studio is the loop thing, stay with it.
Otherwise, you should try Reaper, you dont need to buy it to try it, just download from their home page and try with all functions working until you take a decision.

About the plugin window, yes it's annoying, but if you "Caps Lock + click" on the effect in the track, the vst will appear without it's window.

Why is that? Is the release not keygen'ed or serial provided ? I dont use reaper all that much except for quick testing of plugins and such...

just checking out all the new features and waiting for ReaperBlog yt video. Container is definitely gonna be the most abused new function for me. Also the track lanes seems cool, but cant think of how it's going to be a better choice than separate individual tracks and the stupid gain reduction meter on track is stupid but it makes me happy, eye candy stuff. haha

also can anyone quickly tell me how to make the stuff in the docker (Media Explorer, Track Manager etc) windows to be dark mode ?

  11. Thank you very much for answering me personally. Can I download these from the sister site or am I at risk of catching something on my computer?
I saw it there and don't dare to download it. I know that I can only download this demo, but if it appeals to me I would like to have a full version of it

REAPER is PITA if you just want to compose music and be in a flow state.

I totally understand that it's the dream DAW for a certain user demographic, one which is heavily into customization and writing scripts and endless routing options etc. But those things are not what matters to people who want to be productive and make music!

When I watch tutorial by REAPER users for REAPER users, I always get the feeling that they are more interested in fiddling around with the countless settings and customization options, rather than actually creating music.

Just download from reaper.fm and run the program as in demo mode. Startup reminder only last about 6 seconds. You have full functionality for all functions.

If you find that you really like it, why not give the devs some love & buy a personal license.

New users should definitely read the manual to get a firm handle on Reaper's abilities. Experienced users like myself should be reading the "What's New" section at a minimum to get acquainted with new features & changes that could affect our workflow.

I personally don't mind the Reaper 6 theme. I only make the necessary tweaks for for locations & such like you would do in any DAW.

To tweak or, not to tweak. That is the question...

As Dan Worrall said (and I might have the quote slightly off, but the meaning is the same).... the best DAW is the one you're familiar with. It's just a tool, and whatever works for you is the best choice. Reaper checks all the boxes for me, but it might not be the right one for you. And let's not be dumb here, it's not some hack DAW that people use because they like to fiddle around with UIs or spend time customizing. It's 110% a fully featured DAW (and, frankly, in a lot of cases more fully featured than the other favorites that will limit what you can do without paying extra.. and in some case, still limit you more than Reaper no matter how much they gouge out of you).

Easiest to use? I'd definitely say, no, but fully featured, excellent performing and great price. I don't really like to sit and customize it. Customizing and understanding the DAW... that was an early battle, it's done now. It's not like it's a constant daily struggle.

Every DAW has it's pros and cons, and it's just all a matter of what suits your workflow, what your priorities in a DAW, what you're used to, etc. Your brain (creativity) is the more important part in the whole process.

I get that people don't want to spend a lot of time learning how to use a DAW, though. I've used a lot of different DAWs in my time (As I'm sure many have)... there's always a learning curve. Reaper's is probably a little more difficult, but there's a lot of benefits to it that make it worth taking the time to learn it enough to meet your needs. If your needs are fully met by some other DAW, no need to look around.

  17. So I'm just looking around because I had been using FL Studio 8 since the beginning of 2008 and now I had used Ableton. Then I went back to FL Studio because of the super easy workflow. Since I'm a legitimate FL Studio myself and unfortunately it keeps crashing, I wanted something new but it's not that easy I don't dare download it I'm thinking about it first because I find it very exciting when you see that other daws have something that others don't have but otherwise I completely agree with what you said

Thanks for the good tips guys

Yah that wouldn't jive with the Dan Worrall quote I gave (if I even quoted him correctly), but it's still basically falls under what I'm saying.. if an app is crashing a lot, then it's not really meeting your needs at all (not checking all the important boxes for you), and it makes sense for you to look around if you can't get the crashing fixed.
