I'm exploring the idea of building a new PC lately, and with that comes the decision on whether to set it up with a fresh install Windows 11 or 10.

I'm using Win10 LTSC on my current machine with no problems but given they're stopping support in 2025 i might as well consider switching. Once i install an OS i don't want to switch in a couple of years down the line, i want to commit to whatever i choose now.

Looking to hear from users who have tried recent versions of Win11.

Compared to Win10, are there any barriers or limitations with:
    1. Running k'd plugins from the sister site? (if so, which plugins?)
    2. Integration of audio drivers, software, interfaces, thunderbolt, etc?
    3. Key utility apps that run on Win10 but not on Win11?

Anything else i should know about? Workflow differences? Data tracking or privacy worries? Any performance improvements? Any major benefits or drawbacks?

    Thanks for any input

    1. no problems
    2. audio drivers work fine (no TB interface tho), software too
    3. not really

at the core, both systems are basically the same. what you might encounter are glitches tho

What do you mean by glitches exactly?

I really don't like Win11. Next version is coming around March i think, but then i don't believe it will get better, all they do only makes things worst.

W11 is shitty IMHO. There is NO benefit with W11 over W10.

Here's three very annoying things from the top of my head:
    - You can't turn off "Combine Taskbar Buttons"!
    - Those stupid rounded corners are irritating as the rounded corners are ONLY graphic, not clickable area, so what you see is not what you get!
    - MS only built new layers and upon layers on top of the OS, so that reaching for basic settings is just MORE clicks away than before.
Try reaching for "Properties" for something on the Desktop and you will see what I mean. You need to select "More Options" first etc etc.

Windows 12 is around the corner btw. Hopefully they will ditch the W11 design.

About a year ago I upgraded from version 10 to 11. After installation all my previously installed plugins and programs work perfect. During all this time I didn't see any problems.

For me Win 11 and all drivers and apps run like on the last Win 10 Version. Better Backgroundprocess handling on Win11. There are some Design things i don't like but most of them can be easily changed. Win 11 is spying a bit more than Win 10 But all that can be turned off with the well known Tools like on Win10. I don't think that Win 12 will break with the Design of Win11 like they did from Win 8 to Win 10. Design wise they will go more and more the Apple Style Way maybe they add a Dockbar this time. With this Script you can revert the right click menu (Which is in my opinion the stupidest update on Win 11) back to win 10 style with additional admin features. https://www.anreiter.at/admin-kontextmenue/ also Memreduct is very useful to keep your Ram clean. https://www.computerbild.de/download/Mem-Reduct-16192279.html

No problems here. Bear in mind that if you use a more recent generation of Intel CPUs it will be beneficial to go with Windows 11 which allegedly manages cores more efficiently.

One thing I'd like to point out, as a number of other users have also experienced is that the chips on Intel's latest architecture (12th, 13th, and 14th Gen iirc) present serious issues with audio playback and latency.

I am not saying this is a universal issue, but certainly one I have experienced myself. I am using a 12700h cpu, my OS is fully optimized and I get occasional dropouts and glitches in audio playback. Games, apps, etc all work perfectly fine. I have found no solution for this as of yet.

You are wrong about the "combine taskbar buttons" : https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/ne...ly-gets-a-never-combine-taskbar-buttons-mode/
And you're also wrong about the "properties" ;) One right click on the file or folder and it's on the bottom of the list of the popup menu, there's even a shortcult for that ALT+Enter

if you keep your win 10 pc offline then stay with it, winn 11 for me fine no issues, end of support for win 10 will be not that far away, and win 12 coming soon we will have to wait and see,

Melodyne 4 is not working in W11. And it is no compatible with v5. No work around how to transfer my edits to newer version.

My old M-Audio Fast Track and Tascam US 144 work good.

PS. Yes , Melodyne 5 works perfect in W11. I meant Melodyne 4 and 5 are not compatible.

Everything works perfectly, zero problems. Melodyne 5 (R2R) works fine as well.

is about same (unless you have some quirky shitty device manufacturer doing terrible job on driver code)

installation itself is tricky, because there's TPM, SecureBoot and platform requirement, Microsoft account requirement, mandatory telemetry spying, Defender keeps turning itself on all the time etc...
sure you can circumvent those all, but it's questionable how updates will (or won't) break functionality in the future

if I remember correct there should be Win11 LTSC coming sometime in first half 2024, I'd suggest staying with Windows 10 for now - and I wouldn't rush into completely new PC hardware unless you really have to (in which case you might want Win11 for better stability/support on a new platform

I had similar problems with my new 12700K, glitches and dropouts and CPU spiking in Studio One, not really serious but annoying. Disabling Core Parking was the solution for me. Im using this free tool: https://coderbag.com/programming-c/disable-cpu-core-parking-utility

3 of my Win 11 notebooks are being killed by the latest Windows Update : crash, unable to recover from restore points, no more boot from system SSD. (2x Asus Vivobook, 1x MSI)
By chance I had a clone for my most important pc.
My advice = go for win 10, no benefit yet to choose 11 over 10.
My 2 desktop PCs are still on 10, and I have no plan to upgrade yet considering current problems with 11.

It's working great, except... I can't kill Defender. I disable everything in the registry and it keeps turning back on. It's beyond maddening.

disable "tamper protection" in security settings and enable entry "Turn off Microsoft Defender Antivirus" in Group policy editor at:
    Code:
