Sonic Scores Orchestra has more options/instruments than Sonuscore Orchestra i think, otherwise they sound really similar, and the Orchestra from Sonic Scores is much cheaper.

    Too late. Reported...:disco:
    Just kidding lol

My thoughts exactly. And you're right while being cheaper Sonic Scores is twice the size than Sonuscore's, there's even electric guitars in Sonic Scores.

    My thoughts not exactly lol

I use these libraries to this day. Some years ago, I executed a Collect samples/Batch compress in the whole collection and I have a full orchestral library in my HD occupying only 18, 4 Gigs :disco:

At that time, I must have used some of the R2R versions, 5.6.5 or 5.6.6, but I can not remember for sure.

Any updates on this front, after a couple of years now in 2023?

For studio use, mostly pop, disco, funk, not for actual orchestral use. No need for many mic positions or effects, or that many articulations.

Essentially, not "decent" but great sounding smaller libraries of:

    Woodwinds: Flutes, clarinets, saxophones.

    Strings
    : Violins, violas, cellos.

    Brass
    : Trumpets, trombones, saxophones.

Spitfire BBC Discovery edition is decent for it's size. Not very in-depth in terms of articulations, velocity layers and round robins, but a decent basic sound of the most basic articulations, especially if you consider that it's free!

And the free Spitfire Labs strings etc are not too bad too.

If you got Ableton Live Suite the included Spitfire String and Brass Quintet libraries are fantastic, though they are not really symphonic / orchestra style, but obviously small ensemble libraries!

Logic also comes with great built in string and orchestral / classical instrument libs, Cubase Halion Sonic stuff is a bit meh (sounds a bit too late 90s rompler style, not really in-depth sampling, unless they have improved the libs in more recent versions of Cubase

On Pianobook you will find NFO Alternative Chamber Strings , which is also quite decent for it's size, but not a full orchestral library of course.

Synful orchestra certainly fills the bill. Very small, very free, definite learning curve but excellent results are achievable.

Dunno, maybe unpopular opinion, but I keep copy of Nexus with Hollywood expansion just for that time I kinda feel I need acoustic sounding instrument, that is already baked enough in effects and fits the mix without much messing around, without crazy articulations or whatever, just solid enough sound with press on a key.
