I propose with the new kontakt update as of September 15th that we start utilizing bobdule's template. I have added some guides (in blue) for where to put the title and where to begin the developer logo/name
If using short view in kontakt (the shortest a wallpaper can be displayed inside of kontakt) it will just barely hide the dev logo, but still maintain a clean appearance. The developer logo/name should begin with the word AREA
The start of the title name area where the word VISIBLE begins is based on the Play series libraries from Native Instruments.
The blue horizontal line is the center line for the visible area.

I understand that people can choose to do their own thing and I am not discouraging creativeness, but for those that want to follow a standard or have a template that melds nicely into the new layout I hope you can find this beneficial.

If you compare the format we normally use

and the new one


you can say the the main difference, excluding the width (but this is less important I think), is where you should start to put the logo (the light blue line) that is some millimeters more on the left.
The second blue line defines what I already considered the space limit for the logo using the previous format, so it's good we can visualize it.
About the width, well on the old format you have on the right the dotted vertical line that is a limit that usually nobody passes with logos or anything; it's just a space for the background.
In the end, if you confirm that it's correct, we should also go on to use the old format but just considering the the 2 blue vertical lines in the new layout... so we should update the older one also with the blue lines

The shortest a wallpaper can be displayed in kontakt 7.6.0 seems to be 291 pixels wide.
The longest a wallpaper can be displayed in kontakt 7.6.0 seems to be 514 pixels wide.

Is there any benefit in making wallpapers that are wider than 514 pixels? Is there any place where the extra pixels would be viewable?

I also agree that the blue lines are good guidelines for placing title text and company title text though. The alternate would have both texts before the short line so that they are always displayed, which is also a neat creative direction i think as well. Either way it is good to know where the delineations are for what will be visible the majority of the time kontakt is used. The half logos that sometimes get cut off i think are mostly undesirable in all situations so whichever people prefer to make I think it is helpful to have the 291, and 515 lengths in mind. In a perfect world all the brand logos/text would start at 292 for me haha, but we'll see what happens. Or better yet, never have brand logos/text.

In my opinion it is slightly too left. You have to leave some margins to left, bottom and top or it doesn't look good as you can see with your p0rtals wallpaper. Also the visible area is small yes, we all have to live with it but don't try to compensate it by using larger text. It's all about proportions or it won't look appealing. Also the company logo is too big. I find it quite strange how many of you do this. It is less important element of the wallpaper and should be smaller. You want your eye to catch the title. This is all typography 101 and I don't wanna sound like an ass. But this is a fact. Happy wallpapering everyone

 

I also agree it might be too far left, however it is in line with the Native Instrument libraries as well as a plethora of other libraries from other companies.
Here are some wallpapers from official licensed libraries as examples:
(I tried to pick ones with straight line letters on the left to clearly see where they start "like libraries that start with B instead of A, but there are many that abide by this even ones that are not so obvious like Ashlight and Choir Omnia both of which that abide, but is harder to see because of the A and C.)

I also agree that the pOrtals text is huge, but was a conscious creative decision upon my part based on the individual style of Hunter from pianobook.
Nevertheless, I wish Native Instruments would give some style guidelines for developers regarding wallpapers. It would also be cool for kontakt to utilize the extra space beyond the 514 pixel line as what is used for NKS browser wallpapers so that one file could be created instead of multiple files in a resource folder or nicnt embeds. One png that gets sliced. That might be asking too much though hehe.
