I'm not looking for intelligently randomized aleatoria or idea generators...
I'm looking for something that, in a clear way, gives the user a palette of chords to choose from
by EAR, and allows for triggering of a series of them with a midi note.
Something that is more or less scale-agnostic albeit possibly with some gentle suggestions.
Simple interface, no arps or sequencers (necessarily) , also no real need for single notes for harmony in the upper octaves as that can be done with another instance of the instrument without the device if need be.
If it is hard to understand why this is something a person would want, it is because I don't give that much of a fuck about music theory and counterpoint as I taught myself everything by ear through listening and piano rolls. I've also got a fundamental grasp on theory through osmosis

https://feelyoursound.com/houseengine/ Try this thing from r2r. If someone can figure out how to turn on the computer and double-click a DAW icon, they are musically educated enough to use it to make fast starter chord progressions.

scaler 2? sounds like we have similar thoughts on music theory ... scaler 2 you can pick a scale, audition chords with a midi note, build a pattern drag it onto your DAW. I bought the fucking thing if that means anything from a sister site user.

I think the best 1-stop-shop tool now might just be EZ Keys 2. I was pretty shocked at what a nice job they did with it.

House Engine you add like an Instrument Plugin. All it does is play generic piano sounds while you generate chord patterns. Then you drag them to an empty midi track.

You click the Generate Button on the Main page. Pick an "algorithm". It brings up the Chord editing window. You can change the Key and Scale. You can hit the Dice button and each time you click the dice it will randomly generate another progression. When you get sick of that, you click the OK button on the bottom right. It opens the search page, but on the right side of that is a big scrollable lists of arps, melodies, and stuff like that. If you see a little snapshot image of your chord progression on either of those screens and mouse over it, your mouse icon will change from a pointer arrow to a hand icon. That means what your mouse is hovering on can be dragged directly onto a Midi channel you have in your DAW with a real instrument plugin loaded. On the page with the Dice, there is a image of your progression that you can grab and drag at the upper right corner.

It is a morphodite setup. Spend like 15 or 20 minutes with it and you will figure it out. Some things you just try because they are from r2r. It's one of those. Melodic Flow is another one from that developer and I am apparently too stupid to use it correctly. No clue what it does.

Have you tried Riffer? There is also Chordjam, Melodya and Rapid Composer, and of course Captain Garbage.

The captain garbage trial blew up my printer. Tried hexachord stuff. wtf again. Rapid composer i just like ran around and couldnt get to the good part. A lot of the time I'm hoping that things will be so intuitive that I will just be able to figure it out with however much inference i have from using these things . but it's like in blender, you have to learn that you grab something with G to move it... I'll try riffer... Chord potion is actually pretty great, probably the most fun one.. fluid chords had me pretty inspired for a bit too
