Well I'm done with this for better or worse. I like saxophones, but they don't quite have the overall appeal of pianos and I didn't sample any of them myself, so rather at the mercy of public domain / CC samples. Candidly nothing here sounds as good as the City Piano, but the University of Iowa Alto and Soprano Saxes sound the best. They are quite warm and blend well. I prefer them to other freebies / basic K5 saxes which sound synthetic to me, like they are trying to hard. I think I hear the reed. Small footprint, good for mockups or sitting back in a mix.
The Club Saxes are from samples by Clruwe at Freesound.org. They are more free form and fun, but have their own definition of that pesky phrase 'in tune'. Check out the Tenor Sax for many trills, drops, slurs, etc... Finally there is the MSLP Sax with 6 styles from that very interesting and eclectic library of samples. Toys or maybe a totally different sound if you can swing it.
The Iowa Saxes are available for Kontact 5, VSTi and Sampletank. The Club and MSLP Saxes are for K5 only. And yes you do need the latest copy of K5.

unfortunately, i'm still on 5.21. after reading all the complaints and hassles with the 5.3 upgrade, i decided to stick with something that works for me.

Great project! .... both the sax need some editing if you want them to work as hamonies (Tenor = trills by example)!!!

Now you jus need a trombone and trumpet and you´ll have a complete funky section of brass!

Cool project man! I like the sound of the Iowa in particular (apart from the E3 high velocity sample). The Club one sounds a bit too out-of-tune to be usable in a harmonic context especially in the lower register. Very nice work though!

 

there's really no problem, what had happen was people didn't read the nfo that said this is just an upgrade and to retain their old installation(5.0.3/5.2.1) thus causing encrypted patch messages and other errors. But all is well(besides the usual hiccups) and good to go, if any issues hit me up

 

Excellent ear! I removed the E3 as well as the odd sounding D3 from the high velocity layer, hopefully that improves things.
When I release the whole thing, I'll emphasize the two Iowa saxophones as the polished showpiece instruments and the Club saxophones as more free form and expressive (aka out of tune).

Iowa Alto Sax.nki- when trying to load this patch a error message appears
Your version of Kontakt is too old to load this file. You can update to the latest version by exiting Kontakt and starting the Service Center.

The G6 note sounds a little muffled/noisy compare to the rest of the notes?

Hum I kicked up service center and it gave me 16 updates. One of them said Kontakt 5.3.1 Win Update. Kontakt 5 version number says 5.3.1.37. Does any of that help?
Many other things said 1.1.1 Win Update.

 

nobody can use your .nki's now because most don't have the latest version the scene only has 5.3.0.6464
