hello !

the ks4 mk3 comes with driver setup and firmware updater. so far so nice. but after installing on my laptop and looking in the device manager i can see 2 devices, bd and dfu drivers that aren`t installed . one named niks4m3bd.sys and one niks4m3dfu.sys .
i had to get them by doing online search in the device manager.
i know that they were downloaded from microsoft.
but i neeed those drivers for my strictly offline desktop pc. i already tried copying those files to my pc but since one of the machines have win 10 pro and one win 10 home, there was no luck.
is there a way for me to get my hands on those drivers ?
the controller so far is working except the graphic displays don`t show any waveforms and the leds above booth show no lightning when using traktor pro3.
am i missing anything else without those drivers ?
or can someone send me his drivers for win 10 pro ?

Screenshot your Device Manager section of USB Controllers, someone could need that to help. Also, do Win 10 Home and Pro ever have their own specific drivers which are different on each? That might be a stretch. Did you manually install these drivers by updating the driver in Device Manager for the S4? "Online Search" for drivers has always just resulted in some kind of Installation Loop for me, anytime I have ever had to try it for anything.

 

i don´t know if the driver for each os are different. it was a guess by me.
my try to install those drivers was 1st via DM (directing DM to the folder where those are ) and 2nd way to just drag those to the system32/drivers folder.
actually, when installing drivers i think you need the whole package like files with .inf and .cab.
it`s a shame that the NI driver installer doesn`t have those 2 drivers from the start.
it also seems, after investigating, that more and more developer are leaving driver install via microsoft.

I haven't used Windows in years, but I was reading some similar things about this. You can regsvr old dlls and ocx dependency files, but .sys files as a driver are news to me. I'll look a little more into it. One thing though I speculate about is those filenames. niks4 - NI model info in the file name. M3 is the mark number of the Model # you have. And this is maybe of interest, this DFU in that filename. that is typically used to denote a Diagnostic Firmware Upgrade related file. DFU is/was a common route to jailbreak an iphone.

You said you updated the firmware. But are you sure it was successful? I would try it again. If you did update the firmware over a USB connection with a Hub, that can cause problems. I would disconnect it from a hub and go straight to the machines usb port. I would also try using a USB cable that you know is not damaged and works with other stuff. After you successfully do the firmware update, you can usually reconnect back to the hub for normal use.

i think sys files in system32/driver folder are the normal extension for years. i believe the cab is a kind of container for sys files for different OSes and the inf file makes it register to the system. that`s probably why the sys files i copied over to pc aren`t working or get even recognized.
i couldn`t upgrade the firmware because my pc told me that there is no s4 attached, but the driver installer did and placed the other drivers in DM in order to function for asio and receive faders and knobs, but no dfu and bd.
so i pluged the s4 into my laptop installed the package and had to search the dfu and bd drivers via DM.
after that i ran the update exe and it said that my s4 was already on the newest firmware (it is even a higher version than the latest update NI provides in their installer/homepage).
i wonder if i am the only one who uses their product on an offline machine.
