Hi, I'm really bad at composing, mixing, the list goes on. Does anyone know of 1on1 help? I been tinkering with a lot of plugins and no matter what I do everything sounds like junk. I don't expect to sound good by any means but I just want some help in the process. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you

That is actually good. Then you are unique.
Make the most bad tunes and sound, and there will always come something from it.
You are producing however you want to call it :)

first thing first, you need to check about yourself first, your musical ability, knowledge, tone detection, rhythm sense, listening ability etc. I think to get straight into music production without knowing it those for sure, atleast verified by someone that experienced and can be honest enough to tell you everything about that is a suicide mission, things will only getting harder, you will get it wrong and wrong after another wrong. Funny enough there isn't much wrong thing in the subjectivity land of music, if you know what im talking about, so getting things wrong in music is the worst. I mean how to explain to people that the dynamic of the song feels wrong, when he doesn't even know how to compress nor having the sense of how to compress the track correctly (or how the music needs/deserves) ?

Everybody knows that "knowing the enemy" is a basic 101, first thing to do/learn before anything else ever and 99% of the time the enemy is yourself.

There is no bad answer for that once you discovered your ability, you'll established a baseline where you are at the moment and what to learn to improve. Maybe look for tutor after to help you get all those fundamental right first, that particular area that needed work. All im saying, you should get the right tutor but since you are asking that question vaguely you probably dont know what kind of tutor of what particular area of music production you need. I mean it's ridiculous to get a mastering engineer or a plugin wizard tutor when you don't even know how to make two tracks work together musically, right ?

Also how bad your music right now ? like noob bad or doing it for 10 years still bad, bad ? everyone tells me it's bad ? or just dont know for sure but self-doubting bad ? Also give more info about your interest, genre, all those stuff, im sure a lot of guy here can help to point you to the right direction.

You have no idea, some people with epic production skill here that still struggling to understand the concept of "pocket" in music and it's just sad and when someone point it out, they'll get "can't please everyone" or "taste is subjective". hmm

Lately I been downloading every plugin that looks and sound good. Weird part is, I just can't get the music to sound good with everything I add to it. For sure, I know my timing has to be off because I'm not really doing much just throwing a bunch of midi into tracks and praying it sounds good but it doesn't. I'm not fixated on one type of genre. Honestly I like it all because music is music, doesn't matter how its created. I tend to focus more on Rock, Pop, Hip hop, Trance, its endless really. My process of starting a new track is, I find a drum beat and start adding to it based on what I think sounds good. My transitions are horrible, timing is out of sync, and I've been looking into getting midi voice sound because I can't hold a note if my life depended on it but I already convinced myself I'm not the next Robert Plant.

I noticed that people who get focused/fixated on one genre actually develop a lot in quite a short time, especially if they are really fans of the music they are making, they know what kind of elements they want, arrangement, what the end result should sound and they just focus on getting there. It's easier for them to find actual tutorials, samples, presets, try already working ideas, it's not one of those things when you just throw stuff around and hope something will come out of it. They learn all the fundamentals there and if one day they decide to change the genre, it's just getting nuances from other genres, it's not starting from blank state, they already did their time with learning their DAW, music theory, tools, production techniques and etc.

Dunno, maybe do your time on one genre, learn everything doing it, how to do proper compositions, arrangements, how to mix all that in context, solve problems, it's much easier when you actually have some benchmark in mind, without it, you are going to need tons of time.

So start from the beginning than, put the time, first become a musician, when you get fluent with an instrument, than learn a DAW, than get into composing and arranging, than into production and sound design, later start learning mixing, it may take years, but by the end, you will be satisfied with your music.

This guy is trying to tech you how to fish, mostly for EDM genres, I don't think anyone went in such an length to provide you with knowledge to make most genres, others are just focused on getting that one thing done right, this guy tried to really teach you how to make anything, so start with his fundamental series and than explore tools and production processes, than maybe if some genre is really interesting to you, try to get more into it.

Seems like he's doing 1-on-1 too or have some kind of academy, didn't really check his stuff in years, again, don't think you will find anything better than this online.

Thank you for tips. I'll start focusing on a specific genre to better understand the process plus it makes it easier because a lot of the songs I already know.

I can vouch for the guy too, he does a lot of work with the Audio Engineering Society (think he’s chair of electronic music), I’ve attended a few of his talks and definitely knows his stuff. He does 1-on-1 too

Just complementing what people have said: do you have access to your favorite artists discography? Then you already have tutors, you're just not listening to them... they speak this language called music and if you understand and practice what they speak you'll eventually create music as well.

Learning the basics of music theory and relative pitch can lead you a LOOOOOOOONG way in discovering yourself and understanding the music that you like and is trying to make.

You don't need a tutor when you are not any good at this stuff yet. You can learn all the basics quickly on your own, practice them some, and then get a tutor or whatever you want to do. When you first start, fast progress is easy. The first thing they do when you go take some class is they give you a syllabus and a list of books to go buy, and they expect you to start reading them.

What are you going to try to learn how to make music-wise? And what are you going to use to do it? Computer, instruments, DAW, etc. Can you already play any instruments? Learning to play an instrument on your own can start you off on the wrong foot. It's very easy to develop bad habits when you are just starting. The computer stuff is time, research, and plain old work.
