    HI
I made tempo map in Reaper, but discovered afterwards that the tempo had more changes that it seems.
So I edited a 2 bars part adding more tempo maps points.
But then, all the other tempo maps points after the ones I created moved, so the whole tempo map is now false.

Is there a way to fix tempo maps points so they dont move even if you edit prior points?
Or any way to adjust tempo map in a selected area, without changing the rest of the tempo map?

Please, I've already watched a lot of videos about tempo maps, so I'm only interested in experienced user's advice.

Great question. I also had doubts about this, looked for information, didn't find it and adopted the practice of creating my MIDI click tracks in a music editing software, then and I asked Reaper to import the tempo map with all pace changes. Have you tried this? I set up all tempo changes (including rallentandos, accelerandos) in the MIDI file via Finale and then import them into Reaper. If you're in a hurry, maybe this will help.

Do you mean that with Finale, you can edit any tempo point without the other ones moving?

Before you add or edit tempo map, select all media item (ctrl+a), right click, item properties, item timebase: Beats (auto-stretch at tempo changes.

Shure! In general, with a notation editing software (Finale, Sibelius, Doritos and Notion), you can make whatever changes you want (in terms of pace, time signatures and measures and Finale, for example, can export everything inside your MIDI file)! With Reaper you choose, time, markers or regions. Finale doesn't work well with time envelopes specifically, and I think Sibelius works better with this stuff (although it's worth checking out Finale's MIDI tool menu features). The advantage is that, in the notation soft you can accommodate everything more easily (reducing or increasing measures, performing accelerandos, rallentandos, changing pace, etc).

Just like any automation lane, u can add envelope points/tempo map in the master track in arrange view. Just click Ctrl+alt+m which show master track in arrange view. Select master bring the play cursor to the point where u want to insert marker or map. and then click shift+c which shows u automation lane for tempo. Just go on from there.

    No, I mean tempo map.
It means that I've changed the grid according to the real tempo of a song, which as it's played live, the tempo moves, it's not static.
You can see a video about this process here.

Like every other automatic lane, this lane and its points either stick to beat or tempo which you can select in the project settings. So after inserting a new point the ones after it have the same beat or time position.

    OK, I found the answer:

You must use control alt to move a point without affecting the others.

Thank you, the problem described is not related to this ... This was done first before doing a tempo map, of course.

Obviously, if I made a tempo map, I've done this.

I was speaking about how to edit it, WITHOUT moving the other tempo markers ...

    Anyways, I found the solution,
    Thank you.

Yes using ctrl+alt, prevents the point to stay and not to snap to next grid also turning the snap off helps. But also if there is a wider grid just creating a point from where no change is required keeps the rest safe, like we use for the rest of the stuff.
    Glad u found a solution.

    Firstly,
    not
Secondly, ctrl+alt is for moving the point up and down only, so changing the tempo for an existing point. And the Beat/Time setting matters here too.
    Just sayin'. :winker:

Yes, I do it with snap turned off.
But if you look at the video from 12:29 it's clearly explained that control alt allow to move the grid in any direction without affecting the rest of the tempo map.

    Well, almost.

    Firstly, 7:29.

Secondly, he's moving the marker, not the env point, that's an important difference and it looks like neither you nor Kenny recognized this. Moving the marker changes the tempo of the previous marker, moving the env point (up and down) changes the time position of the next marker while in both cases all stay at their beat position as long as the timebase is set to Beats (as explained at the beginning of the vid).

However, it's most important that you've found your solution, messing around with tempo lanes/track/markers/points is confusing and annoying enough.
