1.im looking into maybe getting some plugins or plugin and was wondering whats out there and what other people would get if they had the chance i have looked at nexus halion sonic 2 halion 5 just to name a few but i hated halion 3 or maybe some fx plugins i really want to try something new thats not "released" i just bought presonus professional and now i want to see whats out there i use kontakt alot but to be honest buying kontakt would be useless because all the "extra" libraries i have any ideas?

2.i was also thinking about getting a mixer the bcf2000 is cheap but to be honest a friend has one and im not really impressed with it the faders are loud i also looked at the mackie control universal which looks promising but its 850$ then i seen a tascam us2400 which looks exzactly what i want there discontinued but ive heard still work now but for that price i dont want to pay for something i cant use in studio one .... does anyone even use a mixer?i usually use my mouse or the akaimpk 49 faders and the novation 25 sl faders but evn then just end up back with the mouse

3.thinking about the new presonus tumbler 10" sub has anyone tried it yet it has 2 xlr plugs do i need to use both of them it would be plugged into a focusrite saffire pro 24 dsp

Yea I've been looking at those I have played with fx-g a little how does the ilok2 hold up ?does slate update their plugs a lot or do they just discontinue stuff like other companies?

 

I really cant imagine many people jumping ship from DAWS that have been around forever refining their products for something new.. I mean sometimes new is good I guess, but for a DAW wouldnt be me... I havent looked into bit wig beyond reading their homepage but i dont see the big deal?

Yea it may be more appealing for newcomers. Generally most people will stick with the DAW they learn on for life.

 

i just got a us2400 and use it with acid and studio one and it works perfect (windows 7/8) tiny bit tricky to set up but youll work it out in 10 mins.

get the krk sub...it works fine with the safire...thats my set up

Not a suggestion but your heading question is "what would you buy" & for me it'd be Reason 7 (what else gives so much for so "little") anyway I liked it since I 1st tried Reason back in beta but I don't actually need it so even then I'd not spend so much on 1 facet of a hobby.

But slightly addressing your actual Q I'd say are you really going to get $500 worth out of any soft?
ie Do you earn a living from your music? ? If yes go for it, if no, I'd seriously re-think spending so much. (i've wasted 1000s and 10 years later regretted it as I just didn't need to spend so much but through encouragement / peer pressure or whatever it was I thought at the time it was essential.

If you are making music now why the heck do you need more stuff?

Less forces you to squeeze every ounce of creativity from what you have and through learning every inch, nook and cranny you develop into a musician with your own style, More just turns you into a generic sounding commercial studio.

 

Lexicon Bundle (really miss all those great reverbs)

Nexus is boring as its just a rompler and the sounds have SO little adjustments. Every Top 10 EDM song you hear uses Nexus (probably). And they always sound the same.

Izotope stuff is amazing for mastering and such if your a big plug user (instead of outboard rack processed stuff).

if all those fail, get some Yamaha NS-10s

 

Since you have Studio One and you want a hands-on controller for it, I can recommend you Presonus Faderport. It's only like 100$. I have it and love it. Great build quality and the fader is silent and feels great! No wonder, it's an ALPS 100mm motorised fader. It also works great with Reaper and Cubase and all HUI compatible DAWS, but it's only fully functional and programmable in these three I mentioned.

Then for 400$ I'd get these plugins:

All DMG Audio plugins, especially EQuality, EQuick and Compassion compressor. DMG makes the best EQs in the galaxy. ;) No other software EQ can match EQuality quality in analog mode! It's just perfect in every aspect! Compassion is such a versatile compressor it's mind boggling. You can use it as a master compressor and a great limiter!

Cytomic The Glue and The Drop. Best buss compressor and a brilliant sounding and versatile "VCF" modulated and saturated filter.

Klanghelm DC8C and SDRR. Great and versatile compressor and a brilliant and very versatile saturation plugin.

HoRNeT MultiComp and SW34EQ. Great sounding vintage compressor emulation [VCA/FET/Opto] and great sounding vintage console equaliser emulation.

DDMF 6144 EQ - absolutely brilliant NEVE "Portico" equaliser emulation.

Sonimus Satson and Britson. Great sounding, low on CPU and easy to use console emulation plugins that you can use for gain staging on every channel and buss.

Valhalla DSP reverbs and modulation plugins - ValhallaRoom, ValhallaVintageVerb and ValhallaUberMod. Absolutely stunning reverbs and chorus/flanger/delay, Eventide harmoniser style modulation plugin.

These plugins, except DMG and Cytomic ones [but they're WORTH every GD penny!], are also all rather cheap [30-50$] and absolutely best bang for the buck of all the commercial plugins currently [2014] in existence IMO and believe me - I try EVERY plugin released, test it, analyse it, mix with it... not just look at the GUI and say "it looks pretty, I should use it". ;) They also use user-friendly protections and are easy to authorise. No dongles!

If you want great looks and not so bad audio quality, sell a kidney and buy Waves Mercury bundle+SSL 4000 and IK Multimedia T-RackS. Actually, the IKM Black and White compressors are quite good, also their Pultec EQ and this new mastering EQ are really good, everything else from IKM is just kinda average quality sounding [in comparison to the plugins I mentioned] like Waves plugins, IMO. Bigger companies like that have just lost the "thread" and they don't innovate too much any more and mostly sell pretty GUIs and old DSP code for big prices these days to the gullible people who don't know any better.

If there's still some money left, I'd also get TAL synths, Bassline-101 and U-NO-LX. ;) These are pretty much all the commercial plugins that I use. Everything else I use is either Open Source, donationware or freeware and I use Reaper as my main DAW and EnergyXT 1.41 as my "jammin/ideas" DAW because it is so handy and easy to work with because it's a modular DAW - you "physically" connect the plugins with "cables" and it can be used as VST/VSTi chainer in Reaper.

4 4 plugins later, all your money is gone.

If you want a badass analog synth, you can snag a used Korg MS 20 mini for $449 here

Or if you want to be able to do everything, just get Komplete 9 for $500

I forgot to mention an absolute steal ToneBoosters TB TrackEssentials bundle of 7 plugins for just 25 Euro. SPL Vitalizer for 250$ is... well, like wiping your arse with 250$... in my humble opinion, of course. ToneBoosters give you all of his plugins for 110 euro and you get everything you need to mix with in one bundle. If I couldn't mix with DMG, Klanghelm, Valhalla and Sonimus plugins, I'd use TB Bundle to get similar results.
