I'm looking for a good defrag soft tool (not of Microsoft) for BIG hdd with samples libraries.
Is anyone have an idea please ?

Hello! I use Iobit's Smart Defrag. It has a free version.

 

"Ever since Windows 7. There is a scheduled task built into windows that automatically defrags drives. So the biggest reason you don’t need to manually do it yourself is because Windows already does it. "

So basically, it is useless for at least a decade.

If your drive is slow, the only way to solve it is using a fast SSD/NVME drive AND/OR ram as cache.
And there is only ONE soft doing this :

For HDD, O&O Defrag. It has got a few options for defragging. You can find it “free”.

 

The best defragmenter is Ultimate Defrag by Disktrix. Can arrange sequential defragging, with many options, especially good for big sample libraries. I dont think any else defragger comes to even close to its options. Defragging a terabyte of samples can take hours thou.

 

used to use PerfectDisk but not for a long time.
seems it did some of the things like Disktrix but Ultimate seems to go further.

Just a reminder to never defrag an SSD drive.

 

If it's a traditional HDD, Defraggler (freeware), sort by path, select all your libraries files and defrag.
If it's an SSD, don't, only check that system ssd trim is enabled.

 

Interesting. Have you tried Auslogics Defragmenter? I was going to say almost the same about it.

I use smart De frag 6. Never on my SSD / NMVe .

 

I use glary utilities 5

 

Ultimate Defrag has also optimized algorhytms for defragging SSD:s. Check the manual for extended technical info about defragmenting, both, traditional and SS-drives to get the max performance.
