Intel 12th/13th/14th gen cpus now have IOH not as part of the processor chip, but on a chipset, which results in stutters and higher DPC latency, that's a major letdown for any actual work being done on a computer

I was beginning to think that something was wrong with my new computer as lags are common. Now I know better. Thanks.

Thanks! This is very interesting and useful. So if I buy any Intel 11th gen I will be safe?

I'm waiting for more in-depth coverage of the topic because it seems really weird to fuck such things up,
10th and 11gen cpus should be fine, but they may have other issues, especially DPC latency is hit or miss depending on basic components like motherboard's network card or so

you could get a regenerated one of any generation but I'd generally avoid those stutter models. stutter is not giggly.

Phew, I'm glad I went with 11th over 12th gen. After disabling all unnecessary services the DPC latency is excellent.

    additional in-depth coverage:

    TLDR:
Windows tends to get slower overtime with more data and programs installed
new cpus work objectively better with Windows 11
DPC latency and overall snappiness is objectively better with older cpus that do have IOH built-in
overall performance (singlecore and multicore) as well as efficiency is objectively way better with recent new cpus

Here's a possible solution for people with 12th/13th gen desktop processors who need low-latency recording in their DAW.

    In BIOS:
    - Disable all efficiency cores
    - Disable Intel TurboBoost
    - Disable Intel Speedstep (EIST)

I am now confused. And like my boobs falling down.
I don't know what is better now.
    So which CPUs are better?

Isn't disabling this drastically make your computer worse?
Like most of the Intel cpus have turbo boost. And for example Basic speed is 3.5 Ghz and on Turbo Boost 5.2 Ghz.
So your computer enabling this when needing more power like for example playing in DAW. So without it your computer will suck.
    Or I mixed up something?

That's such a radical solution though. Turning your 14 core 13600K into a 6 core gimp. Rather just sell the entire system and go AMD at that point!

Agree. However, for the people that has already bought 12th/13th gen Intel CPU's, this could be a working solution until they have bought a new MB and CPU (and get the new system up and running).

Is this serious enough for you to want a refund on these cpus? But then you'd be stuck with the motherboard etc.

Even for Intel standards this seems very fucked up. I've heard they've been having huge losses lately but to cut costs on such a critical component... fuck, if memory serves this was introduced many years ago when DDR3 RAM was first used. Along with the L3 cache. the first iCore generation.

Apparently they were very careful so in games and the most popular benchmarks this doesn't affect so much.

Intel you are only making your situation worse with that.

Can somebody tell why one should buy an intel CPU today?

    - draws so much power, but still gives not enough performance
    - this problem
    - AMD performance is just better?
    - no upgrade path - AM4 stayed so long and so will AM5.
    - why even have E-Cores? For music production it really sucks, if for example a DSP56300 emu is loaded on an E-Core, with lower clock speed? HUH.
    - are there more disadvantages?

I mean im with AMD for my two machines and so far happy with both.

by default, there are different turbo speeds for different amount of cores utilized,
for ex. 6-core processor may have basic 3.5 GHz on all cores, 4.0 GHz turbo on all cores, 4.2 GHz on two cores, and 4.3 GHz on single core,
for audio, it's always better to avoid fluctuations, so in example above, something like sustained (locked) "basic" 4.1GHz overclock on all cores with adequate cooling would yield most consistent performance

actually it's AMD which draws MUCH more power when idle or casually doing almost nothing, and realistically speaking almost nobody is running cpu at full load all the time, unless doing some heavy non-accelerated video rendering,
you can undervolt Intel cpus and get lower power consumption (and less heat), AMD isn't really that much more efficient in daily workloads to justify AMD or Intel,
E-cores are Intel's attempt to keep pumping more cores into spec sheets, without melting sockets down xD
on the other hand, AMD's X3D architecture is one huge mess too, providing uneven performance on half the cores, thermally limiting entire processor by stacked cache thermal limits
