Need Recommendations for a Synth

  1. Hey Guys.

I perform in a Duo with my wife. We both play instruments and sing, and any additional backings to song I record in reaper and we play to that.

My wife can play multiple instruments, but she would like to start playing piano live as well.

I use a surface pro with reaper live, but instead of using a midi keyboard and chewing up CPU power and disk space with Kontakt libraries, I'm after a decent bang for your buck synth with weighted keys (66 Keys) with great sounding realistic piano sounds that can plug straight into the mixer. No real need for an abundance of other crazy synth sounds. Just great piano sounds and some good string and pad sounds. Also needs to be extremely easy to transport and setup.

I'm a guitarist, so I have zero idea about any of this. I figured there would be some real synth tech heads here that would know of a few good ones. Want to keep the price as low as possible, but obviously don't want cheap flimsy garbage. But weighted keys is a must.

Looking forward in hearing what you guys have to say on this.

    Cheers :)

Sure, or a Nord Stage. If used, or if you have a few thousand bucks budget. I know the title says "Synth", but weighted keys with a full size kb "synth" is a fast way to end up with some pricey search results. Another way to look for some good candidates would be to search for Digital Pianos. Most of them do some modest synthesis. I'd look at the Yamaha, Kurzweil, or Kawai 61 key models that fit the other requirements.
