"Create your own reverb" plugin?

Is there a plugin that allows you to create a convincing reverb piece by piece? I'm not really talking about delay plugins with diffusion, as while you can create a reverb with them, it doesn't really sound like any actual reverb plugin/don't sound good.

MTurboReverb by Melda has a module that lets you write your own algorithm for late reflections :

The manual goes into deep detail on how to write formulas, so I'd look into that. It's extremely long though, it will definitely take a lot of practice and patience to learn how to use it lol

The best and most economical way to create your "own" convincing reverb in my opinion is capturing impulse responses of spaces that you like. You can get good results with a DIY approach, by simply popping a balloon in a room and recording the response with your cellphone microphone (Iphones and some mid to high tier Androids have decent microphones these days) or even better a stereo field recorder (Tascam, Zoom etc).

I second what Haden said - custom IR is what I think when I hear "make your own reverb."

Ableton has a convolution plugin bundle for Max4live that comes with a IR creator tool. You just need 1/2 mics and 1/2 speakers for a convincing true stereo or mono-to-stereo reverb. You can apply the reverb with near-zero latency using Ableton or third-party convolution reverb vsts.

Google "how to record Impulse response with Ableton" to learn more

I should've specified "algorithmic" reverb I guess. Essentially I just wanna see the inner workings of how algorithmic reverbs work but without having to go through the effort of learning how to code DSP

If you in Ableton, in Maxforlive with Beap you can create easily something very uniq with no effort

Bro it might be a lost cause if you can't find a reverb sound out there... there are literally thousands of different reverb and presets ... I couldn't imagine being that picky on such a small aspect... but that's me I guess

If I got it correctly, the OP was not interested in a reverb with many settings, but in an environment in which you can build your own reverb. So the interconnection of allpass filters, modulators, and granular components in a FF/FB design.

This isn't a "me being picky", this is me wanting to better understand the inner workings of a reverb & for fun!

I've gotten a lot of good suggestions here, thanks everyone!

One of the VST capable Pd forks, Max/MSP, Cabbage or Flowstone would probably be the best options; which is the best option will depend on towerdefense's preferences.

Faust is also an option, but a bit more code-y.

I have been having fun learning about diy hardware audio units like compressors and preamps.

If you're interested in reverbs they have some rack and pedal diy kits you can build while learning about how different metal components affect the final sound. I know you were looking for more software stuff but the electrical engineering behind pro audio hardware is dope too!

For a totally different approach, there's Protoverb by u-he :

    https://u-he.com/products/protoverb/

Every reverb algo is randomly created and unique to the moment they're created. Sometimes they sound awesome, but often it's totally gross
