Hello everyone! Is there a plugin that removes information from the mid channel and puts what is removed into the side channel?

It's a bit like if the mid channel delta were simply added to the side channel.

    Thanks!

I apologize, maybe I expressed myself poorly. What I meant was a plugin that puts on the side what I remove from the mid.
For example, a mono guitar, I remove the highs of the guitar and those frequencies of that guitar go to the side

Wouldn't this be possible in Fabfilter Pro-Q3? (or something close to it). Another way I might also try to rig this is BlueCatAudio MB-7 Mixer. It frequency separates bands and each band has it's own pan control.

Then you'd need a stereo EQ with a panning option per band. One band to reduce the freqs on the left and to emphasize it on the right. FF, Kirchhoff, apQualizer, ...
This presupposes that you can add a stereo EQ to a mono track.

FabFilter ProQ seems to do the trick. If I'm not misunderstanding what you mean, you just need to cut in using the Mid mode, and leave only the Side.

But if the guitar is really mono it doesn't have side information, therefore it would only disappear in this scenario. I think panning some frequencies to the right and some to the left inside the eq could do the trick. I never tried it but if I'm not wrong there was some old Waves plugins that did that trick to achieve/enhance stereo information.

MStereoSpread in combination with MStereoProcessor and Correlometer does everything one needs to make everything really wide but without it getting out of phase.

However it's my secret so I'm not going to tell anyone.

Any multiband mono-to-stereo/stereoizer plug-in should do the trick.

The question is: will the frequency range you have stereoized be completely cancelled out when you listen to it in mono? Some don't care about this since basically everything is in stereo nowadays, but others still think there's good reason to maintain mono compatability.

I don't know if there's any plugin that can do that directly to a mono source, you'd need to make that stereo first. Then there's another problem.

Most MS processors will control the width by working the side channel only. If you want to take from the mid and give to the sides what you can do is create a M (or S) band on something like ProQ3 or Kirchhoff EQ, give it a bit of gain, split, invert one of the parts. Then drag the mouse over both and when you move one the other one will move in the opposite direction.

Also take a look at Sideminder. It does a little bit of that give and take thing (plus other things that might be useful), but doesn't allow you to go too extreme with it.

    Ok, I've tried it.

Here's the audio, first original, then high shelf, then additional mid bell, then see pic
    and here are the pics

As you can hear this works ok for one band but two are messing up the phase - audibly and when monoed.

Thank you all for the ideas, i was hoping in a simple plugin like ozone imager doing something like that
Sometimes I receive a beat and a vocal to mix on it and there are elements only in the mid but i want to transpose them to the side making space for vocal, instead of carving and losing informations.. but for now your suggestions seems a right conpromise.
    Thank you! :winker:

Did you check the newer versions of it? My version number is old, and it does not have per band Mid/Side features that would really do exactly what you want. It's very close to capable of this though. MB-7 has a per band Spread and Pan, which is why I suggested that one. Your real solution will probably just be a combination of plugins.

In Ozone V5, Dynamics might be a better module for it.

Assuming your source is truly mono and you would like a certain frequency band to be moved to the side channel (and the side channel only), you could try using an Allpass filter on either the left or right audio channel, set to the frequency range that you want to move to the sides channel.
This will result in it being removed completely from the mids channel, so you have to proceed carefully with how you apply that effect.

(I forgot to note that in this ReaEQ example the Allpass needs to be applied to only one channel. That can be easily achieved with the routing matrix by only selecting one of the inputs to pass through the EQ.)

Another option would be to use two Allpass filters set to different frequencies on the left and right channel. This makes for a gentler push of the source into the sides channel without too drastic cancellation in the mids.

    I hope this helps.

If you have a mono signal, you have a signal where the whole spectrum of frequencies that is played back is the same on the left and the right channel. So if you want to remove a specific frequency from the mid channel completely you will have to basically remove that frequency completely on either the left or the right channel because if you don't remove it completely you will still have parts of it playing through the mid channel. That being said, to achieve your goal, you could just copy your signal and you pan one of them hard left, one of them hard right. Then you can use a notch to cut specific frequencies on either the left or the right channel. That way you would have that specific frequency or band of frequencies removed from the mid channel and you placed it on either completely left or completely right which would move it only to the side channel. I am not sure if that would yield the expected result though.
