Number 1 on the Metacritic Albums of the Year since February, so I have made a dedicated thread to discuss the current state of the popular music business. What do all you professional audio lovers think?
First time I hear about it and never have pleasure to listen. I guess I am not a critic. The first 10 seconds are the moans on autotune that I makes when I hit something with a small foot toe.
Well, it's interesting that she is competing with all the manufactured pop artists and seemingly winning. Polachek actually reminds me of a modern day Kate Bush with her creativity. The pop genre is not really my thing, but I always keep my eye on the latest trends as that is where all the money is. Last edited: Jun 4, 2023
she's got some really cool music, but I really love this track of hers with Flume - another brilliant producer
I just picked this album as a representation of the current pop music trends. It's got the highest average score from all the professional music critic reviews (94%). Of course it's subjective, my album of the year is totally different, and probably unlistenable to most people on here Last edited: Jun 4, 2023
in retrospective, i realize i've been a lucky human being not to know that sh*t. don't like this at all, not the music and not her entire appearance. (btw, why isn't there a poo or vomit emoji on here? would've needed that desperately in this case...)
It's perfectly acceptable to hate any kind of music, even the most financially rewarding part of the music industry. To be honest, I would make this kind of music if I could, as I know it would pay for a new fully kitted out music studio, and a house upgrade. With these things in place, I could then could make my favourite types of music that nobody would listen to without any worries Last edited: Jun 4, 2023
the last song is also good the rythmic arangement sound like a lou reed heineken commercial "walk on a wild side" pop remixed.
First song sounds like a combi of Lady Gaga and Katy Perry. I wonder in which way she's not? Is this a band playing? BTW, she's not listed in any Billboard charts I could find.
It's not really my type of music, but I appreciate that she has tapped into a large market and her music resonates with a lot of people, and it's probably better than some of her contemporaries who have a more generic music style. Pop music is a tricky business, and it's hard to predict what people will like.
I believe she writes all of her own music and plays the piano too, but pop music is all about production values and $$$$.
45 mins for an album, is this still the norm in 2023? Or im just spoiled by dnb, ambient, etc? I am not into pop, but this sounds actual quite okay - compared to what other artists out there produce and slam out. Album of the year in all genre, definetly not for me. There is so much better past music out there, which is totally different style and i have yet to find my Album of the year across dnb, ambient, techno, trance and drone. Recently installed Spotify again, so the hunt for new music will be easier again. Also i am wondering what people vote on metacritic? Is it only the pop/mainstream andys?
It's all sorts. Black Country, New Road was highly rated last year, and False Lankum by Lankum is currently number 3 this year, so it's pretty diverse. It's a site I visit to find new stuff that I wouldn't ordinarily listen to. Last edited: Jun 4, 2023
