i just demoed this plugin and for me, it just sounds like some basic saturation with a few EQ adjustments? Do i miss something here, or is this basically it?

was someone able to test this plugin in plugindoctor without crashsing?

 

yes, i own it since few months and when doing some tests in PD, no crash happened

 

What is your opinion about the plugin? What is the "magic" that I'm not getting?

 

But if you demoed it and you don't like it what's the problem? Just don't buy it hahaha. I also demoed it months ago and honestly I didn't buy it. You don't lose anything if you already have similar plugins in your arsenal. Just my two cents

 

Nothing magical for me, i use it on my mixbus after compression, barely hitting it. Sometimes using it on bass or vocals, but like others said if you have already similar plugins then the price might not be worth the use you'll make out of it. Good saturation plugin but limited options. Spectre or Kelvin might be a better choice, not modelling any magical hardware but good sounding and more parameters to fiddle with

 

Arturia Bus Force was loosely modeled after the Overstayer Modular Channel Stereo 8755D, check out the saturation section on the Bus Force, does it look familiar ?

If you are looking for Magic, might as well use the PA Looptroter SA2RATE, it literally has Magic!

it is what it is, magic! I intentionally didn't learn what's under the hood for my own amusement because I like what it does. lol

Then it's advisable to mention, that any other curve then a "basic" waveshaper curve leads to super heavy distortion.
Basically every saturation plugin can be recreated with a basic waveshaper curve. (And possibly a bit equalizing)

 

true! but i think that really good plugins have modulations going on under the hood so that the saturation sounds more alive

 

Gentle saturation does not necessarily lead to waveshaping, while a waveshaper is doing this immediately.

On top of that, even if Overstayer is at offer for $135 ATM, you can get 6 (almost 7) PA saturation pluggies when at offer, so...

 

I agree that a waveshaper curve is basic but it isn't the case in Overstayer. You can try to replicate that saturation and share the harmonic spectrum with us
