I used Xilo for years for my own company website. Very reasonable prices, proper access (I.e. if you decide to later you can run php, MySQL databases or other stuff on there). None of this 'cheap for first year then 4x more after' either. Unlimited sub-domains and 10 email addresses.

£29.99 for a year of hosting and the domain seems like a good deal. However, no mention of any website builder type of function there, which is key for as someone with zero web design or web coding experience. Do they have any web builder feature?

 

Xilo uses cPanel to handle all things related to your site, and there are site builders that can be installed in a pinch there. However, a site's impact is on the end design and the ease of build. Lots of site builders lack in such features. From that standpoint, Wix seems to have no contender. Before I signed up to GoDaddy, I used their trial to build my Website. Also, GoDaddy seems to use Microsoft 365 for its email server; is it possible to not purchase the email bit via GoDaddy and just purchase the domain and web hosting/builder, and then use something like Namecheap for the email, using the domain purchased via GoDaddy?

 

The change rate is about four times the sol value, so 80 bucks is about 300 soles a year. Minimal salary rate is a little above 1000 soles.

 

I use my gmail account. That way, I can always keep up with mailing. Whenever I hired a web service, I’ve lost track of my mails. It’s always been a mess for me.

 

That's why I suggested bootstrap studio, it's a site builder, it spits out clean code that clean and relatively lean for an auto builder. You can prig it if you really can't afford it. Play with it for a few months and test it before you have a host. See if you can make things happen, you can build and test locally. There is tons of online help about how to build with it. Try your ideas out locally and then decide what you want to do with hosting and whatnot.

TBH just get whatever feels right for you, it's not that complicated a build and the requirements are kind of so low it would be easier to just tell you how to do the stuff you want to do then swim in a sea of choices.

It's a simple static site, you are overthinking it.

I think the site, hosting, domain, site builder bit is fine as I am happy to go with something like GoDaddy or IONOS for now for the ease and to get an online presence quickly. I will then probably look at the likes of Bootstrap for the longer term solution and more control over the design and so on.

The main bit I'm trying to work out, and one of the things I want, is the professional looking email. IONOS seems to include this whereas GoDaddy also includes it, but at a higher monthly cost, and listed in their options as a free 12 month trial of Microsoft 365 Essentials to achieve the email bit.

IONOS is £2 per month for 12 months as a monthly payment and free domain. It then goes up to £8 per month and £17 per year for the domain. This makes it £24 for Year 1 and then £108 for subsequent years.

GoDaddy is £74 annual cost with free domain and free Microsoft 365 Email Essentials for Year 1.it seems to then be £74 for subsequent years plus £14 for the domain and £4.99 per month for Microsoft 365, making it £148 per year for subsequent years.

Therefore, GoDaddy is cheaper in Year 1 but about 30% more expensive in subsequent years. However, getting rid of the email service and being email to use the domain in other, cheaper email services would then make GoDaddy £88 per year and cheaper in subsequent years by getting rid of the Microsoft 365 bit. For example, Name cheap seem to offer a mail service for about £1.70 per month, so £20.40 per year. This plus GoDaddy would bring the cost up to £94 for Year 1 and subsequent years, making it the cheapest ongoing solution (if its possible?!?!). Also, Google Domains seems to charge £10 per year for the domain, being the cheapest option, so is it worth me also purchasing the domain through them?

Basically, I think I am happy to go with GoDaddy (but need to investigate some of the previously mentioned issues around geo limitations etc), but just trying to get my head around the email bit.

Therefore, is it possible to:

• use GoDaddy for the site builder and web hosting bit (for £74 per year)
• use Google Domains for the domain (for £10 per year) ; and
• use Namecheap for the email service using the domain from Google Domains (for £1.70 per month or £20.40 per year)?

 

I used to use Dreamhost.com and it's very good. Their plans and pricing have changed by now, like every other site.
This is one of those Sale Deals, where after the first period you pick/pay for (called your term); the pricing goes up to whatever the "then current" rate is. (for this plan, "currently" it is 10 bucks a month.) On this plan, the first 3 years outright are just under $150 dollars.
It is also cPanel like some of the others already mentioned.

I would not hesitate to use them again. You get one free Domain, unlimited transfer (100% true, and tested extensively!), unlimited emails @your domain. They have a nice referral bonus. (this is not one, i do not have an account now). They have been around at least 10 years.

Google Sites lets you do as many webpages as you want, they act like documents in Google Drive, but you turn on 'share', and it acts like a website. It's possible to get a domain for it too, but never did that before.

 

I like the look, simplicity, and cost of this, with the Pro being so cheap! How would I resolve the email issue though as they don't seem to offer an email service as part of it do they? For example, if I buy the domain from Google Domains, use Carrd Pro to design the site and link to the domain, it leaves me with the email side of things t resolve, but I could use Namecheap or similar I presume?

RE: Godaddy - is saving a few bucks (which I am not sure you actually will be) worth automatically losing literally a couple billion potential fans/customers?

I would go with Namecheap + Protonmail solutions. They both have some pretty deep sales a couple of times a year.
