Hey people. I recently found the homicide distortion and I like it way more than for example trash 2 or Saturn 2. However, the company seems dead, and I really don't feel like spending 100€ on an unsupported plugin. Does anybody here have infos on the matter of the company? Can anyone suggest a plugin with similar functionality and sound that isn't trash 2, saturn 2 or Rift 2? I really like how you can switch between "standard, xxx and odd" distortion modes.
"Homicide" made me chuckle. Thermal from Outuput is a great, capable distortion effect. It might be overkill in it's functionality for you, however.
Thanks for your answer, however I really dislike output for their marketing and design choices and I think a big plus about ohmicide for me is that everything is on one page.
yes the company seems dead, they tried to recode their Ohmboyz plugin into a plugin Ohmboyz Infinity, but this was already in 2021 and since then no updates. THe market is quite saturaated compared to when the company launched in the mid 00s. Maybe they simply gave up as Infinity had not the hoped success? Or they are maybe involved into comission DSP code? Nobody really knows ... I feel like Saturn 2 offers lots of variety for a distortion plugin. Rift 2 was disappointing. Felt really mehh. Trash still rocks, but i dont think Izotope will support it any longer? Sadly isnt it. Other than that i dont think there are any really creative and complex distortion FX in the sense of Ohmicide. Unless you want into the classic distortion pedal region. If yes here you have Line 6 Helix and Metallurgy, i have used them on my TD3's, they are amazing pedal simulators.
Can you explain "comission DSP code" for me? This is really disappointing. I get many interesting sounds out of ohmicide which are "accidents" that I just have fun experimenting, while other multiband distortions either do not so much or destroy the sound completely, and it's hard to find a sweet spot. I also found the "phat" and "sharp" controls really useful, i think saturn 2 has similar controls with "dynamics" . Just a resizeable interface would be enough for me to buy ohmicide. I almost think that ohmicide has some modulations going on under that hood with specific distortion algorithms which seem to make the result less static.
Might seem out of place, but UVI Shade is capable of some really great distortion. I know it gets marketed as an eq plugin, but its WAY more than that. I use it for almost everything now, dynamic eq and compression, distortion, panning and modulation fx. It takes some time to wrap your head around but if you're into multi-functional plugins, its a very utilitarian vst well worth the time. Check out 13:27, some examples of the color/distortion presets: Last edited: May 9, 2023
First of all how about contacting the dev to see whats going on. But to your 2nd half of your question I find trash(2) in the same league as ohmboyz stuff but maybe you missed the Unfiltered Audio stuff Dent is very cool Tc ResFilter has a cool drive functio Reason (as aplugin) and of course there where some funky Reaktor ensambles i always forget
Somtimes companies like Ableton, Steinberg, etc ask plugin devs to create devices, stock plugins. (sometimes uncredited). thats what i mean. Is there nothing in the manual how the distortion FX works? I like Ohmicide too, just havnt been used in a longer while.
yeah thats a pitty ohmboyz stuff is really fun but i tend to forget about them if i dont group all the fx in specific groups wich one i like honestly i use all of them the newest i forgot is the manga one and as alwyas airwindows
I answered with precise details the same question than OP's one on this post a few months ago: Can you still buy Ohm Force plugins? (browse down to the post #13 if the link doesn't drive you directly to it) Last edited: May 9, 2023
Wow! Somehow, the search function didn't show me anything before asking my question. This is indeed very sad news. I hope that maybe they get bought up by some other company or stuff like that so that ohmicide will not get completely abandoned... I'm so glad that it works well under bitwig. Time for a petition to revive them Maybe I find another way to get at least a larger interface.
I still use the latest version of Ohmicide in Live 11 on Windows 11 with 64 bit without issue. Why do you need an alternative? I wouldn't buy it when there's no more support or development, but why not just grab latest version from alternate sources like the sister site for example?
I couldn't find the latest version (1.37) so I only got 1.36, which is the latest sister version available to my knowledge. In my case it also works fine, but I think it will become more and more unstable with future OS and DAW updates, and also the interface is a little bit too small on my screen, so this was more like a wish to know if it maybe is worth it to support the developers with the goal of future support and updates.
Cableguys Shaperbox 3 (or just DriveShaper), Arturia Dist Coldfire, D16 Devastator 2 and Sixth Sample F(l)atter hasn't been mentioned. ShaperBox/DriveShaper is incredibly powerful, but you get the most out of it if you buy the whole ShaperBox bundle. Dist Coldfire can only do two bands at most, but you also get serial, parallel, mid/side and some other configurations. It's very similar to Rift. D16 Devastator 2 is more basic, but it sounds really good. Three bands with adjustable filters, a bunch of different signal flow configurations, one-knob compressor and limiter. Lastly, F(l)atter is pretty close to Saturn 2, but without all of the modulators. It has dynamic parameters though which is probably the most useable feature in Saturn. It's only €25 and from a newer dev who really deserves recognition. There's no protection at all in the plug-ins to keep them as light as possible and so that paying customers don't have to deal with all of the potential problems that copy protection incurs. He also has a very high quality multi-band clipper/comp/gate called Clips. It's more geared towards mastering rather than sound design, but you can certainly create some crazy distortion with it as well. I can really recommend his plug-ins if you are on a budget! He also has some great free ones, like the best free delay IMO and a great OTT clone that also has distortion. Check them out: https://sixthsample.com/ Last edited: May 10, 2023
Ohmicide comitted suicide. Almost forgotten now. Have you tried Waves Berzek ? I personally don't like it much but some people swear by it. Hey @ArticStorm , What else did you use on TD-3 that sounds good ? Those Guitar pedal emulations I didn't manage to get some really convincing sounds out of it. Do you add tons of EQ on top to sound good? Asking these because all plugins seems to really destroy the 303 sound coming from external instrument. I tried even the Acustica Audio new pedal emulation that is free and CPU hungry but didn't like it. No guitar emulation really nails the sound of a real pedal after the TD3 like MXR+ dist pedal or a RAT clone for example. I've tried Guitar Rig 6, Pedal in Ableton using chains and layering different pedal and amps, Brainworx pedal plugins, TONEX pedals , any guitar pedal plugin out there I've tried and didn't like it, Maybe just my ears need some hygiene or I'm too picky.
normal TD3 signal and then slam any of these distortion on it, it sounded decent for me. i mean distortion isnt an overcomplicated effect.
Take a look at Audio Damage Free multiband disto (and more): https://www.audiodamage.com/pages/free-and-legacy Paid Kombinat multiband disto : https://www.audiodamage.com/collections/software/products/ad037-kombinat-tri Very nice company Too bad for Ohmforce ... i liked them Last edited: May 11, 2023
Cableguys d16 and throw in a Kilo phase distortion great reminder! AJ and as always dont forget analog distortion
There is nothing like ohmicide but maybe the moogerfoogers native, all working in a chain, could give you something on that league. Pushed to the extreme. I have been demoing them and deliver good sound...
