Scares the shit out of me.
So, as the saying goes, shit in/shit out.

but, in all seriousness, these are big changes and questions for music and so many other fields.

Related to the OP's question, I would say it will only be a few years before a specialized AI can compose music on a pop music level. And a few years later also higher quality music.
It depends on whether the industry puts a lot of money into it or not. If not, AI music will remain a niche product.
The industry will be ambivalent about it. On the one hand, AI would be welcome as a composer because it is cheap. On the other hand, AI composed music could probably only be sold for little money.

AI will evolve exponentially. But at what rate /per time interval (e.g. once per 25yr)?
Most of us don't get how complicated it is, what we call (human) intelligence.
The rate of the interation may be /25yr or even /10yr if you look at what has developed the last 50 years.

What is currently called AI is still many iterations away from the performance of a housefly's brain, so I believe it will be many, many years before an artificial general intelligence (AGI) similar to human intelligence develops or is created by humans. Possibly - or likely - none of us will see artificial general intelligence in our lifetimes.
But yes, artificial general intelligence will finally come, I think.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Exponential_growth

    P.S.:
Personally, I would like to see a faster development towards AGI. If we keep it under control, AGI could give us an enormous boost in other technological developments. Unlike humans, an AGI would not have to be trained for decades and would not age, drop out of the creative process and die within a short period of time afterwards. As a complement to human researchers, this would be fantastic. But only if we keep them under control. Otherwise, humans may quickly become a discontinued model.

One day soon there will be an AI pop star and kids will know it's not a real person but they won't care. Maybe this avatar will be interviewed on chat shows via a screen live-link. Abba have already proven that their avatars can put on a performance and attract huge audiences.

There is already Hatsune Miku and other AI singers. I believe they even have had these holographic concerts in Japan. So basically it's not new even. Just more and more popular

It's a tool, AI is a very big name for what it really does, that is nothing without you holding it. I just don't care what shitty musicians will do with the tool as I don't care what they do with the other tools we have, but I'm sure that at lot of good and interesting shit is coming our way with this tool in the hands of talented and skillfull musicians, same as with the other tools.

All of you's speculating about AI taking our jobs or ending our race, as if we didn't already pull the trigger for planetary catastrophe decades ago with our neoliberal endless growth fetish.

By the time I'll be old enough to retire we will have 55 degree celsius Aprils in continental Europe and no water to irrigate crops and massive genocides of climate refugees at our borders. If AI will leave musicians unemployed, so be it. If AI will decide the best way to save the planet is to get rid of humans, I'll be first in line.

Oh, and it's not "just a tool". A hammer doesn't change itself after learning from the billions of nails that were hammered in the last decade. AI isn't sentient, sure, but it's already doing stuff beyond our comprehension to the point where we discover them weeks or months after they happened. And its growth is even faster than exponential. So unless you want to be right about everything, just admit that we have no clue where this thing can go, and there's NOTHING in history that can serve as a frame of reference.

Even if anybody could make music, it doesn't mean that music as a whole will lose it's value. With music it's just like with language. If you don't have anything meaningful to say, people won't care enough to listen. An element that AI will never be able to replace is that of intuition and life experience. Everything you experience in life also impacts the way you compose, the artisitic choices you make and the ideas that come to your mind. That's what gives human-made music it's meaning and value, because it can touch other like-minded people in the same way, as opposed to notes that just sound good together because an algorithm studied a bunch of composers. Human-made music has that element of conscoiusness because it comes from a place that connects us all.

its useless, AI should really just be used for analytics and finidng info fast, when you mix art with AI its just stupid. Having an objectional medium spit out subjective art is just dumb and pointless and shoudl only be used for fun. I dont use sonible eq, I use my ears...

i agree but to be more exact i have no issues with it A.I. i learned how to accept things i have no control over in life ...all we can do is run our blood pressure up but i do know why A.I. is here and i do know why they do it because its a addiction of wanting everything to be easy and that is a sign of laziness to the max......now there is a suffering within that wanting everything to be done by something else that will make u depend on that exact thing if that thing stop working or loose it's life you are over too

I like the whole idea honestly. I can't wait for it to refine itself for a creative and a listener to have more control over it. There's some tutorial out there on how to do it by yourself but I think there's still need to refine the idea as it does sound weird and robotic but if a few people could put a bit more thought into it, I'm sure we could get some great sounding songs and some nice interface to do it by our self with our own voices and music.

I also appreciate that once again, the labels seems to be scared AF because they will lose control of their product again just like the beginning of the file sharing era. That to me is extremely precious.

there is technology they havent really release to the public i wouldn't be surprise that they don't already have the technology to sound like a human is playing they give us a little taste of it in some of the vst's but i think them is just crumbs to be honest i think this is a must this my speculation because thats all we can do at the moment i personally think they already have the technology but haven't released it if they do...... u want to know how that would impact people life that actually live off the income of music ......so in a way if they do have this type technology i still dont think humans is ready for it to be honest i don't think we ever will because we do love the fact that we put years into our talent and energy in learning music and connecting with music .....so if something just comes and take our lime light that most definitely will hurt some feelins and especially if it hurts our income and the years we put into musicianship just imagine something playing better than you and its a dam robotic thats a bit crazy to be exact

I understand where you're coming from but I don't subscribe to your train of thoughts.

I'm ok with the Music gate-keeping to be crushed and other people to take place. I like the idea that elite have access to a special technology but I also must admit that music is far from rocket science and this superior technology ( if it exist ) will get crushed and bypassed by the people just like it was in the past and it still is to this day.

That technology doesn't scare me one bit. I find it exciting. Especially UMG releasing this recent apocaliptical message speaks tons imo.

This is Napster all over again.

Lol I absolutely love these "oh we've seen this before" type of comments on AI.

No, we haven't seen anything remotely like it, and this is just the first steps of the beginning.

Hopefully we wont get into a ''that vaccine will kill us all and the earth is flat'' again.

But yeah, I agree with you, there was no AI era before.Good thing you pointed it out.

That was beyond the point which I wont try to explain, you probably won't get it if you took it at the first degree previously.

I love the idea of Ai music from a music lover point of view. I wish Ai could constantly blow my mind with crazy ideas i prompt it with.

On the other hand, for career musicians, the road ahead is unclear. Youtube background music, basic commercials, and other advertising services may opt for Ai sources when the platforms mature. Hopefully they have other skillsets that make them useful within or outside of music.

One thing is for sure...the tech won't stop for anyone. So brace for it!
