Hey Everyone. Kind of a strange question here but I hope someone has the answer.

A few months ago I stumbled on a brand of studio hardware. There were things like compressors, EQs etc. They were inexpensive but apparently really good.
I can't for the life of me remember what the brand is called.

I know it's named after the man who designed the tech but that's it.

    Any ideas?

I don't know, that's not much information to go on.

Klark Teknik maybe from Phil Clark. They make a clone 1176 for about $350 and a few Pultec clone for about $200.

    Could be anything.

Maybe Tobias Lindell as well. They make a full chassis 76 clone and some 500 series comps and EQ modules which sound nice for about the same money.

Klark Teknik, Drawmer, Stam, Fredenstein, Cranborne (actually named after the street, but maybe?).

Mr Hrk would be a weird name to go by. :) Oh well, I don't think th eposter is so sure about that part - name after the founder of the company. It could be too many companies. The most crucial aspect being - affordable. That could mean Klark Teknik, Drawmer makes a bit less affordable stuff, but is one of my favourites. It is worth it.

Oh, FMR audio makes affordable but excellent stuff, like RNC "Really Nice Compressor".

Stam isn't quite as inexpensive in comparison to the others. I guess he's gotten on track after taking orders a few years ago (he is/was on the realgearonline) and pretty much running a small one-ish man show down in Chile. He'd use fine parts like Heiserman capsules and such and use a body kit to assemble them. Problem was he'd take orders on say a SSL bus comp and use that to fund the previous parts for previous orders. His stuff from what I hear is good, I never ordered from him because of the sometimes year wait for his stuff. I imagine he has a partner that invested in him and now he is sold in many places. Good for him.

Thanks for all of your suggestions. It isn't any of those though, unfortunately.
I realise my description is super vague but that's all I can remember! I'm pretty sure it was a name of English origin.

The reason I'm asking is that I'm looking to start adding hardware to my studio, partly for the obvious benefits and partly to look more "professional" to potential clients. I'm just starting up an audio engineering and production business and though I do great work with just software, I think I may attract more clients with a bit of hardware on the go.

I remembered seeing this specific brand's selection a while back and being impressed with the price and with the things others had said about them.

I think you will do best if you select each type of unit you want, to research before buying. Usually you will find the best value for your money in the details and then comparison shopping for each one. I was going to guess DBX, but he was actually American. My best British guy guess would of course be Rupert Neve, but it doesn't sound like that is in your financial cards. so to speak. Allen and Heath is British...

i'd look at something like this and see if you remember: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Audio_equipment_manufacturers_of_the_United_Kingdom

I don't know if he's actually British, could be American. It's a small company too, definitely not one of the big names like Rupert Neve.
Also fairly new. Not a company that's been able to make a big impact on the market.

Avoid klark teknik at all cost. You don't get good stuff at that price. the 1176 and pultec clones are amazingly crappy.
Warm Audio has a good Price/Quality point. I own the Warm Audio EQP-WA whcih is the pultec clone. Great Unit which I don't wanna miss.
