Hi everyone. I have a problem with cubase and my midi files. I had cubase 11 installed and had this problem. I uninstalled and reinstalled 12 but the problem persists. In practice, if I open a midi file and also insert an audio track, for example a drum loop, the audio file plays late compared to the midi which plays correctly. Doing a google search it seems that the problem is that the midis are played by windows gs and should be played by halion. Cubase is set to play midi files with halion but it opens them with windows probably because the cracked version of cubase doesn't have halion as well. I tried to install R2R's Halion Sonic SE but it gives me an error during the installation even if I followed everything to the letter and the certification tests are installed fine.. However it seems I solved the problem by setting "buffer size defined by user" and I set "big" and now the audio track plays in time with the midi file. I wanted to know if it's right to put this setting and if I have to do something else. I would like to know how you make halion play midi files but maybe this problem could open another thread. Thank you

Do you have Halion installed? Do you know how to properly set up an instrument track in Cubase? Cause that's how you make Halion play MIDI files or any MIDI events you enter in the sequencer on its track.

you want the buffer size the smallest you can use without affecting playback. It has a direct relationship upon your latency in the daw.

    google:

What buffer size should I use in Cubase?

It is best to keep to fairly low buffer sizes if your system can handle it. About 12 ms or lessis usually a good idea. Latency does not affect the synchronization, but it can affect the time it takes to send and receive MIDI and audio signals, or make the system seem sluggish.

I have no halion. The two versions of cubase I have installed, 11 and 12 don't have halion. I tried to install R2R's halion sonic se but the installation crashes with an error. Yes I know how to set the instruments. This is not the problem. The problem is that the imported midi that plays without an instruments but with windows gs sounds fine but if I also insert an audio loop track this sounds late compared to the midi. I know there is a setting in the preferences / midi files/ to make halion open the midis directly and not let windows do it but this can't happen because halion is not installed.

But if I put a low baffer my midi tracks play at the right tempo but if I add an audio track to the project this is delayed compared to the midi. Don't know why...

I assume that cubase 11 its not legit, the version that was around had big problems of latency as far as I remember, maybe you need a full unistall with a deep clean of the reg then install R2R

Remove the Windows synth from Cubase's devices to prevent its automatic assignment. It will always be problematic, since Cubase has no control over its latency. Use any other VST GM synth (Halion SE, Sound Canvas VA, etc.) and set it as the default in Cubase instead.

Dude, @patatern's point was that no stable hacked version of cubase 11 was ever released, so if you did have a 'cracked' cubase 11 installation in your system, that may be the underlying cause of your current midi timing issues in cubase 12. In that case, it would be prudent to remove all traces of steinberg software from your system & then reinstall R2R's cubase 12 from scratch. Fully cleaning your system should also enable you to install halion as well.
