The City Piano is a fully sampled Baldwin Baby Grand with 4 velocity layers and release samples. It is free and public domain. do anything you like with it. It is also completely dry, so hopefully it will be a good base for adding reverberation, convolution and all the other ations.

Yeah I got it, but only checked it briefly cause all my music time right now goes into finishing a track for the AudioSexed Album.
But I'll test it more later. I use piano on my track, so it might be cool to incorporate an instrument made by another forum member.

But ATM I just have some short first impressions:
You've done a stellar job with the sampling, overall quality is great especially considering the small size, and to make and share something like this is friggin awesome.
I like the tone very much, and especially the clarity of the high notes which don't seem to have much of a digital/electronic feel which sometimes happens.
Also appreciate the dry recording, giving users optimal freedom to shape and color the sound in a mix.
Maybe the C3 octave sounds just a little bit dull with soft/medium velocity, compared to the character of the rest of the keyboard?
One strange thing considering the size is that it took a long time for me to load the instrument, like 90 seconds.

But like I said, basic overall impression: Excellent work, and thank you very much
I also like the previous versions you shared, those can be very useful.

Thanks so much thisis theend. I appreciate your comments on the sampling. This was my first attempt at making my own samples. I tried very hard to edit cleanly as well.
Someone else mentioned that the low-mid to low end is a bit more reverby in the recording versus the high end which he thought had a nice sharpness. I suspect it is somewhat mic placement as I used the built in mic and just availed myself of the chance to record when no one else was around. The mic is positioned closer to the low to low mid range in the piano. I'm not sure if I'm totally catching your meaning though. I had some difficulty getting the softest layer right, so possibly it is sampled a touch softly versus the other octaves?
I'm not sure why it took so long to load. On my setup it takes about 10 seconds once kontakt is up. Kontakt does take a while for me as windows virus scan will insist on scanning it. I do load the whole instrument into memory which is about 250 megs, would it be helpful to do a disk streaming version with a smaller memory footprint?
I'd love to hear a track with the piano in it if it makes the cut for your new song!

Yeah, that could be it.
When I played through the whole keyboard it just seemed to me that the soft/medium velocity of the C3 octave didn't have quite the same bite or definition as the other sections.
But then again, this may just be a personal impression, you know, like my ears were expecting a sound based on my particular references. Someone else may not feel this way at all.

I don't know why the loading is slow for just this file. The nki is only about twice the size of 'The Whisper' that you made, and that one loads really fast, like 10 seconds.
Guess it's just some random weirdness on my end if nobody else have that issue

 

I should be able to take a shot at resampling those layers in that octave tomorrow. If I make a sort of test version, you mind testing it out?
Thanks for mentioning The Whisper. I need to add some more notes to that, I think it has 75 in the softest layer and add the new release samples. Also add the release samples to Shoot the Piano.
I'm trying to think if I did anything differently on the monolith for this than The Whisper. It was the two louder layers and about 80 more release samples, so it should maybe take a bit more than double the load time, but certainly not 90 seconds.

 

Yeah I'd love to test it, but as I mentioned I don't really have time to check out any new stuff thoroughly until after the deadline for the AS Album @ March 3.
But if you'd have any use for just a quick test with basic first impressions I can do that.

You shouldn't worry about that loading time since it works fine for you and nobody else has mentioned this.
Like I said, it may be sth random just for me. I'm still on a learning curve with Kontakt so there could be some glitches in my setup.

I like The Whisper a lot. Immediately when I saw that post I thought it was a great idea to make an instrument like that.
Gonna use it on some future tracks for sure.

 

A quick test would be fine. Just trying to see if there is a difference worth releasing a sort of 1.1 version. A buddy just sent me some stuff for a new sampletank version and I'd like to do a fully sampled VSTi, so all that together might be a bit of an upgrade edition.
Anyway, been a bit busy the last few days and likely will be Monday, so it might be a while before I get things upgraded.

Since you guys are kind enough to look at my stuff. Mind taking a look at this pack and seeing if it works? 28 pianos (or something) in one pack. I'm told that using the kontakt factory scripts might be a problem so I'm pulling all links.
