I had not used Serum in a couple of years and recently decided to install it again and play around with it. I have nearly 200 preset folders, so I went through and neatly organized them. Now my issue is that when I click on the blank preset field at the top - it brings up a vertical list of my preset folders rather than the horizontal one that I'm accustomed to. I read on a forum somewhere that having more than 128 presets within an individual folder will cause such a thing. But I don't have any folders that contain more than that - so I'm not sure that is the issue.

Is this simply a feature of the new build, or am I overlooking some option to restore it to the traditional horizontal view? It is slightly frustrating because having to click the arrow at the bottom of the drop-down in order to slowly scroll through my folders is inefficient and annoying.

This has always been how it looked for me, but I'd probably suggest that you put chunks of preset folders into folders so you don't have to slowly scroll through things.. so, just a random example.. something like:
A-G -> (all your stuff beginning with letter A up to G)
    H-M ->
    N-Z

Or sort them into folders in whatever way makes the most sense to you, rather than having them all together. Serum's preset browser is pretty basic, but kinda shit, IMO.

I'm not sure if there's a setting for "horizontal" view.. is this what you mean? This is how mine looks with TCD's latest revision 4 :

I don't see any setting for this in Serum, so I'm not sure how it works that way. Maybe what you read is right, that if you have too many folders, it will display it in the shit format you see.

well it never intended by Steve to have a gazillion presets? Do you guys need all of these presets?

a preset browser inside the window would really be the better solution, but well.

I am not aware of a different option - maybe make genre folders:
    synthwave
    EDM
    cinematics
    Pop, etc

think Serum looks a few layers deep for presets and lists the presets.

What to do if you have over 80000+ presets like me?
Well, i sort my in subfolders and share the folder in FL Studio, so i can easy drag n drop. I only have the "standard" presets when loading Serum

    Thats my take...

That's how mine used to appear - but something changed and I've tried everything to fix it. I even moved all but one folder to just test it and it still shows the same vertical view. So, I'm at a loss.

Note: I am also using the latest TCD release.

How many levels deep are your presets? I wonder if that matters.

    Mine look like so:

Are you on windows or mac?

Because i switched from mac to windows.
On mac i could use the scroll wheel and i think they showed up like it is @naitguy's picture.

But on Windows is it like you posted it.
Scroll wheel not working so its kinda annoying, i mean i have more then 128 Folder in there why im sorting them right now my genre.

Windows 11 - have tried it in Reaper, Reason, and Ableton... all the same.

When I cleaned up my preset folders, I consolidated the structure so that there would be no subcategories. I can identify them by the prefix ("ARP - Acid FM.fxp" etc), so that's not a problem. Like I said, I even removed all my folders but one so that I could hopefully isolate the issue if it is indeed a folder problem. But even a folder with 10 presets gives me the same view. *shrug*

First, there is another view for the presets (right to the <> buttons), nice for browsing with arrow up/down buttons. But I guess you all know about that.

I have a "modest" collection of presets, and I plan to cut that down even more to the Very Best Of ;), so that can't be the problem. I also don't have a deep directory tree.

Now, back to the OP's topic: ALMOST all of my presets show in a horizontal set of columns way. Like @naitguy's display. Though he is showing the directories (I don't have so many of them to test this, lol). BUT I found a couple (2) of preset folders that simply fill the screen (one column) and then there are up and down arrows on the edges, so one can reach the ones that are not shown.

I can't see any reason for this behavior for now and I didn't change anything (rebuilt database etc) for now, since I want to see if I can find out why this is happening. In one case there are literally two consecutive folders displayed differently.. :dunno:

I would bet all my dusty bitcoins that they are already inside the 80000 bundle that's floating around the interwebs...with different names prob. No-one can have the time to do 80000 presets and the add 20000 more in a few years...but maybe, the now hacked chatgpt, can spit out anything??????

spire has also a great preset browser, well sylenth1 presets browser is okay, because it only sees fxb files, this makes it easier, while serum only sees fxps.

OK, I got it as far as the story about the presets go:

Up to 159 presets in a folder - Serum displays the horizontal stack of columns
More than 159 presets in a folder - Serum displays ONE column
with arrows on the top and bottom of the screen

I wish there was an easy way for komplete kontrol to access serum presets. That would be a game changer
