New RME Audio Interface - 17/01/23 - Digiface AES is a bus powered 14 input and 16 output channel USB 2.0 interface

RME has introduced the Digiface AES which they describe as a professional, bus powered 14 input and 16 output channel USB 2.0 interface with 2 Mic/Line universal analog input channels and 4 analog output channels (2 XLR, one TRS phones) complementing its digital I/O section.

A spokesperson told us, "With an excellent set of digital connectivity, SteadyClock FS, full stand-alone operation and built-in parametric EQ, the Digiface AES shines as the perfect all-in-one solution for recording and playback of digital and analog sources, as well as flexible playback/monitoring via TotalMix FX."

Too bad about the mic/line inputs on the front. I see that it is a small form factor but it doesn't make for a tidy work environment...that, and it seems a bit expensive.

 

It seems quite expensive to me, but it can be run as a master clock, etc.

 

My RME HAMMERFALL DSP MULTIFACE is now 20 years old! I would buy it again! Outstanding quality, built forever!

 

I know RME is legend but that price... I recently bought Focusrite Clarett+ 4Pre - and it has FOUR high quality pre-amps, TWO headphone outputs, USB 3.0, FULL SIZE MIDI ports, FOUR analog outs, SPDIF and RCA ports. And it has the best AD/DA converters on the market. Stable and built like a tank. Plus a lot of software included. For 1/3 of RME price!

I was considering RME some time ago, but for me this company is now overpriced and does not offer more than competition. Only highlights in this product is ADAT (which I don't use), FS for minimum jitter and stand-alone mode. The signal chain parameters do not exceed in any way Clarett+. So there is not much additional value for such big pile of money.

 

Using HDSP9652 for 12 years and it is so hard to find an audio interface that could replace it since I have all ADAT connected. Thanks to BEAT16 I visited RME after a long time to see if they have something new available that is either USB or PCIe and except the usual RayDAT I found Digiface USB! Now if HDSP9652 breaks I can replace it with that, or RayDAT of course. It's $500 new in the US so should be cheaper in EU.

This Digiface AES could do it as well, if it only had at least 1 more ADAT I/O and it's pretty expensive for what you get, but hey - RME quality. When you buy RME you know it's going to last a looong time. Not to mention impeccable drivers which is always the most important thing people forget about.
