    Hi!

I've been listening to a few Crabtree sample packs lately and I was impressed with his ability to come up with vocal sounds in his compositions that sound like they have been sung by a real singer and sound like they have been sampled and pitched from an old record for example.

Example with time stamp (if time stamp is not working, it's minute 1:38):

How could one emulate such sounds? Are there any good Kontakt Libraries which emulate soul singing nicely?

    Thanks a lot in advance!

You are looking for ad libs.

There are alot of Kontakt Librarys yes. Exhale by Output is good, also Arcade by Output.

Thanks for your help and the tip regarding Output Exhale.

Do you know any good Kontakt Libraries that you would recommend to me?

Is there the possibility that they're just sample snippets/riffs from other songs?

Yeah ofc there are also ad libs in almost every sample pack but its better when you have something like this in Kontakt for example so you dont have to pitch in the right key. Output Exhale is for Kontakt <

Reminds me of some stuff I sampled from an old 70s sci-fi film a while back. Those old movies are great for stuff like this and they already have "that sound". 50s, 60s, 70s are great years for movie and TV commercial sampling.

That's true, you can find many gems to sample in that period. My goal in asking my question was to find out how to mimic "that sound" because Crabtree manages it so well and I wanted to see, if I could come up with a similar result at some point down the road.

I guess in those samples, the singing is the cherry on top, because it ultimately gives the sample its "sampley" and natural feel, like it was the intro of a soul song from the 70s or so and not some bars from a sample pack for beatmakers.

Yeah imo that's the best way to go about it. It just takes a lot more effort watching and or scrolling through old movies, sampling, cutting, ect but I think it's worth it in the end. Plus I can't say enough about the sound of these old movie samples, it's a huge part of the charm imo.
