I'd say thay could do that. Easily, if they're in the mood for! It would work like this: You would get a letter from an attorney. Something like "my client watched your show, using products he wasn't able to find a purchase for. My client wants xy in compensation and my very own services go on top of that". At this point it is a civil litigation and it is your turn to proof your legitemite use. Like some ebay purchase or whatever. or "my brother got a license and gave me his dongle". In any case whatever your reaction is to such a letter, if the company is not satisfied with your answer in the end it will be a judge who descides whats gonna happen. And we're not even touching the possibility of criminal law and punishment for doing something against the law.
This is very very unlikely to happen. It's just that your "hey, what could they do anyways" attitude is veeeeery naive.
